Be sure to read the news transcript, along with the background information of the case, by clicking the links at the bottom of the page. Read the data collection portion of the case study. Think about how this information will help you make a connection between a disease and a population. Read the data analysis portion of the case study. Answer the eight practice questions on this Read the outbreak control portion of the case study. Answer the practice question on this page to prepare to complete this worksheet. Answer the questions below. 1. Provide a brief description of SARS, supporting your description with sources from the case. SARS can be known as an acute respitory virus that is sever and affects an individual very severely. People typically group this virus in the family along with the coronavirus because of how rapidly it spreads from none person to another within close proximities. SARS was mainly know to spread in Asia, Africa, and Europe, then began to slow down and eventually become extinct in the mid year of 2003 with nearly 800 deaths and a little under 9,000 becoming infected. There were only about 200 known cases in the United States. 2. Describe the patterns you can identify in the population impacted by the SARS outbreak, citing the case to support your response. A pattern that I can identify is that this virus came from southeasten contienets. In Epiville, there is a population of a little over 99,000 people. In this particular case study, there is a main focus on residents that are apart of Epiville’s Amony Apartments. There were about 600 people living in this apartment complex and the virus spreaded rapidly among the residents. There was an older man who attended a luau celebration on the Amony complex ground, after going to seek treatment from a healthcare facility, nearly 20 nurses and health professionals came in contact with SARS. 3. Draw conclusions about the mode of disease transmission based on your analysis of the disease and population. It be as simple as casual contact that spreads the virus like wildfire, it does not take much to spread from one person to another with symptoms being high risk. The older man who was infected with SARS infected several others around him being that it is mostly spreaded through viral exposure. An example of viral exposure would be flu, cold, and even bug bites that are airborne illnesses. SARS came from international traveling when the first case appeared in the U.S as the first virus of the 21 st century. Any ill individual with SARS can contaminate items that are touched by them and then the virus is easily spread to the next person.
