Full disclosure of any and everything pertaining to the client including but not limited to fees, transportation, and possible conflicts of interest. Protecting Confidentiality And Privacy Respect and abide by all laws regarding clients right to privacy and personal information. Medical records and communication with clients should be confidential and safeguarded. Fostering Autonomy Treat all clients with compassion and respect. Give clients the right to approve or deny treatment and respect their decisions. Make sure clients wishes are heard and are receiving care based on their approved care options. Provision of Competent Services Only inform clients about areas of expertise you are familiar with. Refer client for assistance or resources in areas that the advocate does not have sufficient knowledge. Avoidance of Impropriety and Maintenance of Professional Boundaries Professional boundaries are set between advocate and client. Under no circumstances may an advocate accept payment or benefit from outside services provided or posted to clients. Avoidance of Discriminatory Practices Every human has the right to
appropriate healthcare and treatment regardless of age, race, or ethnicity. Be respectful of different backgrounds and preferred pronouns. Continued Learning Committed to maintaining knowledge of current situations in a rapidly changing health environment. Sharing knowledge between colleagues to keep information fresh. Three actions that will help assure I am incorporating each of the seven principles into my work life: 1. Never stop being teachable. 2. Always keep a copy of my oaths nearby so I can always refer to them. 3. Double check that all medical files are securely put away and always logoff after each use.
