Re: Support for S. 1884- Mental Health Service for Students Act of 2023
Dear Senator Boysko,
I hope this letter finds you well. My name is Katheryn Bautista I’m a senior at George Mason
university. I’m writing this letter to you in attempt to gain support for bill #S. 1884 Mental Health
Service for Students Act of 2023. This bill emphasis on mental health service for students
dealing with bereavement, risk of suiide, mental problems such as anxiety and also depression.
I belive these services would be
really important for the well being of students in our community
and students new to college.
I support this bill because mental illnesses can cause just as much pain and be as deadly as
physical illness. Depression
can lead to suicide, and addiction can lead to an overdose. This
grim outcome could be prevented with insurance that can be granted to this students with
coverage that grants the patient a comprehensive and complete treatment plan for as long as is
nessesary.
Nationally, we have seen numerous mass shooting that may have been preventable if the
shooters had undergone treatment for their mental health issues. Is why if the incorporation of
positive behavioral interventions and support within mental health programs a lot of this can be
avoided.
