Hi Madison,
In week two, my personality type was identified as “Entrepreneur”. After taking the “Leadership Style Questionnaire”, I have a more “Consult” leadership style as well. Although I was rated 35% judgmental, I at times find myself a little judgmental too. As you mentioned when people are late, do not work hard, and or slack off it frustrates you, I can definitely say it frustrates me too. It is exhausting when working with others who do not work hard. I am very hands-on myself and love working with others but agree it can be hard at times to work with others who do not put in hard work too. Thank you for sharing your experience as you opened my eyes to a quality that can influence my leadership style negatively. I have a few things I need to add to my list now for improvement. I do feel I have worked on self-awareness in knowing when I need to change my personality to reflect a better image of being a successful leadership but it’s a work in progress and I am getting better at identifying when change is needed.
Dr. Price,
I scored high in having a consultive leadership style, but after reading said discussions I am really intrigued in learning more about the empowering leadership style. These types of leaders constantly remind others of their vision while taking time to share the overall goals and values that each team member has in achieving them. Empowering leaders are effective communicators and will implement different methods of communication to utilize. These types of leaders know how to delegate effectively, which builds trust and leads to empowerment. They understand the value of each of their team members and recognize them. (Empowering Leadership: Traits & Examples, 2023) Although I display some of these characteristics, I find myself looking for those types of leaders to work for. If I can mentor someone who has mastered these characteristics, I feel that I could influence others and others would want to work for me too.

There is no such thing as a “one-size-fits-all management theory”. What may work for one organization may not be relevant for another. Therefore, when one theory does not fit a particular situation, it is important to explore the option of developing a new theory that would lead in a new, more applicable direction. While some theories can stand the test of time, other theories may grow to be irrelevant and new theories will develop in their place. EXPLAIN.

The two theories I decided to choose for my discussion is theory 1, scientific management theory and theory 5, transformational leadership. The scientific management theory I believe is a straight forward management style that doesn't leave to much growth personally for workers. All the roles are defined in regards to responsibilities and what's expected. Production is monitored and seems very important on determining what needs to be changed. Workers roles are chosen by their skillset or where they fit the best. I believe this would be an easy structure to manage due to the defined lines of responsibilities and can reduce stress in regards to managing personnel.
The transformational leadership theory I believe takes a different angle to scientific management theory and allows for personnel to grow within a company. Transformational leadership theory…

How important are excellent leaders to organizations? If you were to ask the recently-retired 3M CEO George Buckley, he’d say extremely important. But he’d also say that excellent leaders don’t just pop up out of nowhere. A company has to cultivate leaders who have the skills and abilities to help it survive and thrive. And like a successful baseball team with strong performance statistics that has a player development plan in place, 3M has its own farm system. Except its farm system is designed to develop company leaders. 3M’s leadership development program is so effective that it has been one of the “Top 20 Companies for Leadership” in three of the last four years and ranks as one of the top 25 companies for grooming leadership talent according to Hay Consulting Group and Fortune magazine. What is 3M’s leadership program all about? About 10 years ago, the company’s former CEO (Jim McNerney, who is now Boeing’s CEO) and his top team spent 18 months developing a new leadership model…

Some of the strengths is having the opportunity to follow someone who is willing to guide and show you the in and outs of how things are ran and how to achieve whatever goals you may have. The good thing about followership is is being able to be educated by someone who has done what you are trying to do, if not more. Followership could also help leaders become better at being leaders.
