1 Business Ethics Task 1: Organizational Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility Western Governors University April Knight 579144 4/5/2019
2 A. Corporate Policies – A1. Rationale All bonuses will be paid annually, in the first quarter, and based on the previous year's sales, revenue, and production goals. If bonuses are more structured and controlled, they would have less of an impact on the facility’s financial condition, which would provide the means necessary to correct other problems the facility is experiencing. Those hired for hourly, full time employment must maintain an average of 32-40 hours per week, unless changing status to part-time is agreed upon by the employee. Treating employees with respect and equality is crucial in creating the workplace culture Techfite's Corporate facility is known for, and this location hopes to achieve. Showing employees that they are appreciated will be helpful in improving employee morale and making it a great place to work. An event committee will be established to coordinate and oversee any events planned within the community, and will also be responsible for allocating the funds budgeted for this each year. Having a specific group of individuals to focus on commitments to the community and ensure we are following through on those commitments will help to build a strong presence in the community, and improve the corporate culture. A2. Ethical Versus Legal Issues Unethical actions are not necessarily illegal. As a matter of fact, most actions perceived as wrong or unfair are well within the parameters of the law, so are not punishable by law. Unethical practices primarily affect employee morale, retention, quality, and client satisfaction, whereas illegal practices are punishable by law, so can result in fines and lawsuits as well as reduced employee morale, retention, quality, and client satisfaction. All companies that engage in either unethical or illegal business practices will ultimately suffer from a damaged reputation as well as a significant loss of profitability. A3. Ethical Issues In the Scenario The company made commitments to sponsor events in the community, and are now unsure of their financial ability to follow through on those commitments.
