A long long time ago there was a young man named Beowulf who was a monster's worst nightmare. He would destroy all monsters and stop at nothing. One day he and his men were called about to come to defeat a monster that Hrothgar(the king of the danes) and his people were having problems with. Through this brilliant story Beowulf shows many attributes to being a real hero. He’s extremely courageous and fearless. He seems to show very little fear and worry when he fights these monsters. One quality that Beowulf possesses is his unnatural strength. He shows that no matter how big or scary the monster is it will not be able to defeat him. He tells the townspeople great stories of him defeating five ginormous giants and killing sea serpents in the …show more content…
One quote that beowulf said was, “ Have gone by as fate willed,... As I knew how, sweary no unholy oaths, seeking no lying wars. I can die, here, knowing the lord of all life has never watched me wash my sword in blood born of my own family.” He strived to help and make sure that all the people were safe and no one was hurt. He may have failed a couple of times, but he showed the people not to give up. That together anything is possible. Together he leads himself and his men to victory against Grendel and Grendel’s mom. He showed great leadership skills to his people. Beowulf tried so hard to make him look like he was a leader that the Danes and Hrothgar could trust. They put their own lives into a stranger's hand because they felt he could lead them to victory and they would not have to stress about being killed or attacked anymore from then on out. In the end all of Beowulf’s great qualities came to an end when he died against the fight with the dragon. His age had gotten the best of him so he perished into the sea. His last couple of words were him wishing that he had a son to take over his position as king. Beowulf was and always will be one of the great heroes that saved the lives of many. He never wanted anything in return except for a monument built for him; in his name. His tales live on and as for him he would never be forgotten by the many he
Beowulf’s two main positive attributes are his selflessness for the people that he does not consider friends initially as well as confidence to go into battle whenever certain death is prevalent. During the story Beowulf goes against four different enemies, three that are monsters where typical weapons would do no good and an impossible battle against the Swedes. In all he is the only person save Wiglaf at the end that is willing to fight these enemies. The moments leading up to Beowulf’s fight with Grendel, the narrator implies the sheer animosity of the enemy, “None of them expected he would ever see his homeland again or get back to his native place and the people who reared him. They knew too well the way it was before, how often the Danes had fallen prey to death in the mead-hall. (Heaney 47)” Nobody, likely including Beowulf even saw the remote possibility of him defeating even, only the first monster, yet he showed a willingness to fight and powered through and won. It is heavily implied that he only did this for his own glory and the pure danger of the situation, but by many especially the characters in the book, this is interpreted as someone without a fear of death.
The most heroic of traits within Beowulf is that he is not afraid to die. He always explains his death wishes before going into battle and requests to have any assets delivered to his people. “…and if death takes me…send to Hyglac the best of war clothes that protects my breasts, finest of male shirts. It is a legacy of Hrethel, the works of Weland. Fate always goes as it must.” He is aware of the heroic paradox; he will be glorified in life or death for his actions. He knows that when he fights an enemy like Grendel or Grendel’s mother he will achieve immortality as the victor or the loser. “I resolved when I sat down in the sea-boat with my men, that I should fulfill the will of your people or else fall in slaughter. I shall achieve a dead of manly
Beowulf is a very brave and noble prince. He proves this statement in the way he humbly boasts about his ability to complete quests, fighting monstrous creates continuously, and going into each battle or challenge by his lonesome. “Hail! King Hrothgar! I am Hygelac’s thane, Hygelac’s kinsman. Many a deed Of honor and daring I’ve done in my youth… The best of my people, prudent and brave, Urged
Beowulf is a wonderful hero that didn’t deserve to die the way he did. But, he died an honorable death to which many people will remember. Being the strongest man on Earth wasn’t what made Beowulf a hero, it was the ways in which he used his powers. He used his gifts for the greater good and to help humanity from the evil fiends in it. All of these qualities combined to create one on the greatest heroes there ever was-- fictional or

In the epic poem, Beowulf truly exhibits bravery and courage. There is no doubt that Beowulf is a brave man. As soon as Beowulf is summoned by Hrothgar, he doesn’t hesitate to take up the challenge to battle with Grendel. Beowulf is valiant as he said,“ my hands alone shall fight for me” (Beowulf 38). He intends to fight Grendel with his bare hands not knowing what the outcome will be. Beowulf is willing to risk his life for others which makes him courageous and brave of them all. As a young warrior, Beowulf has proven
Beowulf is seen as a superhuman, almost like a god. In the story he had incredible strength and was look up to by the Danes. He, Beowulf, was going to help the
Beowulf is a man that you do not want to mess with. He is wise, bold, and strong-minded. If you were to challenge Beowulf you would be made a fool out of. He has no fear of death because he has seen so many different terrors in life. He has killed numerous monsters and survived covered in their blood. He could be just about the bravest man ever. Beowulf does not want to be looked at as a coward so he keeps his battles fair.
It is hard to be a hero, just have to be selfless and put the needs or well being of others ahead of yourself own. Heroes also usually present themselves in times of need when nobody else does, which makes them stand out, because they are selfless and put other people ahead of themselves. Beowulf showed many signs of being a hero and also showed that he was selfless. A modern day hero that could be related to Beowulf who showed the same heroic traits is Martin Luther King JR.
Beowulf overall was a highly skilled and highly intelligent warrior with little fear and an overpowering stench of goodness. Beowulf's ability to get himself out of situations by thinking positively and somehow inflicting fear on those around him gave him much admiration. Beowulf was I am sure an idol and role model to many, and a disappointment to none; as was this story in
Beowulf was an amazing man, hero, and king. He was courageous. He never backed down, even when the odds of coming out alive were slim. His people loved, respected, and loyally followed him; and for good reason.
Beowulf’s last test of courage comes in his old age when his people are threatened by a “mighty” dragon. Beowulf felt as if something he had done had caused the irascible beast to wreck havoc on his people, “killing and destroying” them and their homes with its “molten” breath. Knowing what had to be done, Beowulf bravely faced the dragon, while all of his people, except for one, fled in fear. His last battle, which ended in death, displayed Beowulf’s unwavering courage, the type that every hero should possess.
A characteristic of Beowulf is courageous. Courage is the ability to do something that frightens you. Beowulf wasn’t necessarily frightened, but he did do something that frightened the men of Hrothgar. Beowulf does many things to show his courage to the people of Hrothgar. One way he shows his courage is when he fights Grendel, the monster who was killing and eating the men of Hrothgar, without any

This reflects or shows that Beowulf has “larger than life” qualities. He can do very amazing skills that is way more different and unique than what people do most often in their daily life. He also looked for her everywhere he thought she would be. His fearless heart didn’t stop him from diving into the lake of monster’s to go in a battle with her, Grendels mom.
