Case Study 1: Midsouth Chamber of Commerce-The Role of The Operating Manager Information System Question: Something had to be done- but what? After reading the case, one continues to come up with new problems and issues along the way that are related to information technologies. The three main problems we encountered in this case are lack of IT knowledge, inappropriate planning, and ineffective and inefficient Resource Management. Each of these issues requires specific attention to fix the next problem and so forth. The solution to attack each individual problem or issue will be explained as follows. Problem #1 Attempting to manage the conversion from an old technology system to a new one without the proper knowledge or background …show more content…
Delaying the IT investment on the new system would have been the best option, since it is a good way to maintain costs down. Solution MCSS needed to implement a realistic timetable that will give it enough time to test and apply all of the operations functions before the Y2K ordeal. Now, the MCSS needs to execute the full implementation of the new system immediately before reaching the year 2000. This will prevent all systems malfunctions. In addition to that, Mr. Lassiter needs to get more people from UNITRAK to come over and work with MCSS personnel to get them adapted to the new system. Problem #3 In the organizational structure of MCSS, there was a lack of communication, which failed to address the increasing problems that resulted in loss of control. Solution Mr. Lassiter, being the manager of sales and marketing, should have addressed the entire organization of the new system changes. He did not even address the full system conversion to several of his own staff members. Also, Mr. Lassiter anticipated Kovecki had studied the documentation, which he had not. Mr. Lassiter needs to prepare a special meeting with key members of staff

Prior to make the final decision of purchasing ASRS technology, there needs to be some deeper discussion as to what would happen to the security of the company’s network if the IT department had to spend more time on data integration. According to Ehow website, “the information technology department in an organization is responsible for the architecture, hardware, software and networking of computers” meaning that putting the IT department full time on the implementation of ASRS technology, can cause improper function of the mainly IT department functions, for instance, server maintenance (Kelchner, n.d.). Agreeing to Wisegeek website statement, “if maintenance is not conducted on a computer network, regardless of whether the network is small or large, application software usually will not run as well as expected. In some cases, a network may even experience total or partial network failure if proper maintenance is not conducted.” Jack’s proposal can cause CanGo extra costs that have not been accountable for and put the entire company’s network at risk (server maintenance, n.d.). In other to make this analysis effective, Jack should meet up with the IT department first and discuss how the implementation of this new technology will impact IT’s current work schedule. Jack and the IT department need to come with a plan that includes a work schedule for the new

Whether you're a homeowner planning to update your garden or a business in need of land clearing and excavation, you must ensure that whatever digging you intend to do will not disrupt any utility lines. Weddle Enterprises, the expert earthwork and utility contractor in Somerset, KY, need you to understand that any type of digging, no matter how small, requires following the proper protocol. Even something as simple as a shrub or a mailbox could potentially cause catastrophe.
Paul Arden, a creative director and author, once stated “If you always make the right decision, the safe decision, the one most people make, you will be the same as everyone else.” In the early summer of 2015, I was facing a decision about which deployment architecture to choose for a new product that would launch later in the year. The safe choice was to continue using a legacy installer that was widely used by the rest of the existing product line. However, doing so would perpetuate a cost and toll on the service organization given that this installer was very fragile and time-consuming to use. Newer technology was available but many sources felt it was not yet mature enough for production deployment. Additionally, several people associated with the program felt our customers may reject it as an option. The right solution was not obvious and parties for both alternatives were very passionate about their preferred path forward. The real question at hand was to either take the safe route or to take on the risk of being different and potentially end
As most business they knew that proper investment in the Information systems and Information Technology is the best way to go but they dropped the ball when it came to proper investing, they either didn’t realize or ignored the problems
Analyzing the case study mGames prepared by Scott Hill (2002), several problems were identified as contributors to the issues the organization is going through. These consist of poor listening skills between the different levels of employees, lack of communication during important decision making endeavors, and ineffective group relationships.
Since R.Ryan Nelson’s conclusions (2007) are based on the persuasive research report and many typical case of IT projects that have great bad side-effects or loss, his suggestions convinced me a lot. I will following R.Ryan Nelson ‘suggestions (2007) in the following ways:
In this paper, the author will introduce a failure case of K-Mart 's IT modernization system project.
