I toured the virtual Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. Though it was not face-to-face, I still really enjoyed my experience through the virtual word. I was more fascinated about the liveliness in the virtual world than anything else. I think the virtual museum itself was more of a work of art than the art it displayed because it covered almost every inch from many different points of view in the museum. I also liked how it was pretty easy to operate and move around, and no matter how much I zoomed in or out I could read almost everything perfectly fine. While being able to explore this museum from the comfort of my own home was a plus, I truly missed out on being able to read the display labels to learn more about the artifacts. Reading about the history or story behind a work of art is, in my opinion, the best part. This virtual tour was captivating, and I hope to someday visit the museum in person.” The Smithsonian is known for its realization and absolute beauty shown in the exhibits. Every exhibit of this museum has great detail and precision. Not only was each exhibit filled with things of its nature, but also had the right colors to make you feel the exhibit. For example, the vibes flowing from the ocean hall were incredible. The way they accomplished the feel of actually being in the ocean was a surreal experience to even see through the screen. I also liked the way that everything was pretty close to life scale, like the huge whale hanging from the
When I came to the museum, the first thing that impressed me was the astonishing building: it was a masterpiece itself. The exterior of the Tampa Museum of Art has a light installation, and all I wanted at that moment is night to come so I could see thousands of colored lights reflected in the surface of the river that flows near the museum. What’s more, I liked the design of the museum inside as well. There were white walls and perfect lighting, and nothing would bother contemplation. In many museums I have visited before there was a lot of distractions, but in this museum everything was done on the principle of simplicity, and that was very pleasing to me. Moreover, when we came inside of the museum, it was almost empty. There were just a few visitors, who were fascinated by various drawings and statues. Most of the visitors were teenagers, what slightly surprised me. I
Museums serve as a way to connect with the public on a large scale, and the knowledge held within exhibits can be a fruitful experience for those who choose to visit these institutions. Experiencing all that a museum has to offer, no matter how well intentioned, can at times be confusing and overwhelming to the individuals visiting the site. The Smithsonian’s Museum of the American Indian dedicates itself to Native Americans in North and South America, and worked tirelessly with varying tribes to create a new standard. Some visitors and scholars found their work to be successful in design and approach while others found it to be lacking in execution. This institution does not approach Native American history in a familiar fashion; however it does cover an expansive period of time, and produces a great amount of detail while generating powerful emotions.
Never before have I seen a museum as grand as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. From its architecture to its massive art collection, The Met has a little bit of everything and one is sure to find something that captures his or her interest. Considering that The Met is the United States' largest art museum, it is easy to get lost within its many corridors and wings. My visit to The Met took place during the last week of July. Despite the almost unbearable heat and humidity that hung in the air, visiting museums under these climate conditions is a welcome respite from a suffocating, yet bright summer afternoon.
They display vary from actual replications of stores, the wildlife that can be found here, and the Native American artifacts that were found in this city. Most of the exhibits are pleasing to look at and well organized. They did a great job with making the replica store displays interactive with getting to press the button to hear the telling of what is being viewed and getting to learn more about this area from history. Some areas, though, are more cluttered and hsve quite a lot to try and take in all at once. An example of this is the area with the war memorabilia. In the display case there is a lot of objects such as photos or items like canteens and clothing items all lumped together. It is neat to look at and learn more about the army and war our veterans were a part of, but this display is bit overwhelming. There does not seem to be any true inaccuracies in the displays at the museum. There could potentially be small ones like an item being put in the wrong display in the store replications that might keep it from being completely historically accurate, or the dinosaur exhibit could be inaccurate because the dinosaur replica is of one that was thought to have roamed here. There is chance that it may not have which leaves it open to the potential to be a historically inaccurate
Another aspect that I found to be very interesting was the way in which each of the museums offered different multimedia formats to facilitate the visitor’s experience with the artwork in display. I noticed that both museums offered applications for smartphones and tablets, free of charge, to assist the visitors with getting the most possible out of the museum. Visiting a museum can be a very distracting task because there is so much to see and without a plan or a navigating system that helps you make your way towards the museum, it can be hard to gain something from your visit. Both apps are accessible to most people and very easy to navigate through. These apps included audio guides, exhibition information, calendars, events and so on. However, I noticed
I hope to see museums make more concerted efforts to educate the public. Too many exhibits are of the “passive, didactic looking” than like the engaging Object Stories program (Dartt, Murawski). Exhibits should seek to tell untold narratives, and programs should be places of communication and cross-cultural encounters. For too long, difficult confrontations have been avoided, both inside the museum, and by dominant communities
As I was walking around the museum, I was shocked and in complete desire when me and my friends walked into a large circle roof type architecture. It was absolutely amazing to be inside and under it. Finally, we reached our destination which was the Mummy exhibit and were impressed with what they had on site.
Over the spring break, my parents decided to take me to visit colleges. Of the two colleges we visited, one of them is located near Washington D.C. We were supposed to visit Georgetown University, but we had one day to relax, so my family decided to visit the National Gallery of Art. My dad originally suggested the Smithsonian Museum, but my said that on Yelp, the National Gallery of Art was ranked 1st in museums in Washington, which is much better than Smithsonian, which was ranked 12th. So, we left our hotel and arrived at the museum just as soon as it opened.
A museum is the best place to find historical, artistic and scientific objects exhibited for the public. Washington DC offers to his public a lot of museum especially the African American museum. It is particular first because of the attraction from distance of his unique beautiful design and huge size of the building. Also, it was recently opened and it is located in the National Mall and close to different monuments. It includes several exhibitions and the dress of ROSA PARK sewn by her captivated my attention.
After arriving and going through the security screenings, I proceeded to go down the stairs, entering the exhibit itself. Before even observing anything specific, it was immediately realized that this was no typical museum. Most people know that upon arrival, but only when you first enter the exhibit do you realize that this museum is not one that inspects the past, but one that reminds us of it.
This was my first time at the Reynolda House Museum of American Art. I was very impress of the museum because I never thought it was a big museum, and I assume that they had a few collections of paintings. However, I was amazed on how many painting they did had and the variety. Out of all of the painting and sculptures, I selected three paintings: The Spirit of the Storm, Peaceable Kingdom of the Branch, and Lion in the Arena. These paintings impress me the most because of how they made me feel.
Before I went to the museum, my prospective about a museum was poor expectations. What can a museum will offer? , this was one of the questions that I always had in mind. For these reasons, I never thought that I could enjoy a museum tour. However, everything change after visited the Phoenix Art Museum. I went to the trip with poor expectations, but since I arrived in the lobby with all of my classmates and the professor. I started feel that this trip will be sash an educational experience.
When people think about a museum most of them think about walking around starring at paintings they don’t understand and reading the little cards with their description. After a while they get tired of walking around long hallways and finally decide to leave. On the other hand, the Gallery One at the Cleveland Museum of Arts is more than just a museum, it’s a fun and innovative environment that how Alexander explained, “… the intention of Gallery One was to transform visitors into participants, rather than passive observers.” (2014). When people get their hands on the action they are most likely to have fun, learn, and build experience.
Bradley, this site was also interesting to me and I was surprised at how much time I spent looking through this site. I've also never been to an museum in person and looking through this site, I would really like to go to one day. Looking at art online is alright but being there in person would be amazing. The art piece Washington Crossing the Delaware by Emanuel Leutze is the art piece that pops up in my head every time when talk about history or when watching the history channel. I wish you have the opportunity in the near future to go and visit the museum of your dream.
As a spectator of museums, I appreciate going to see the exhibitions and immersing myself in the history; art and culture, rarely
