Throughout my life I have always strived to support and care for individuals in the best possible way and my aim now is to pursue a career in a profession in which this quality is fundamental. I believe that studying a degree in Health and Social Care will allow me to gain a thorough understanding of the knowledge and skills needed in this area and of the mental and physical needs of different individuals. Studying this subject at A-level has hugely increased my enthusiasm towards caring and safeguarding individuals through a profession and has also encouraged me to continue my studies into higher education. The A-level courses I study have enabled me to attain vast amounts of information that would be useful on this course. From studying AS level Health and Social Care, I have learnt many things regarding the quality of care and caring techniques that are used in all professions such as gaining compliance; and that a key aspect of this is communication. It has made me aware of how to communicate effectively within various care environments and also with a diverse range of people. I have shown that I am able to work effectively as part of a team through numerous activities where I was required to cooperate with other students in order to complete a task successfully. It is very important to be able to cooperate effectively with allied health professionals so this skill is very beneficial to me. As part of this subject, I took part in British Sign Language lessons for 20 hours. It helped to broaden my knowledge on the diverse range of needs different people have and how hugely it can affect their lives. From doing this, I have also improved my communication

I am inspired to embark on this path because I want to gain an in depth understanding within the Learning Disability and Mental Health field for example professional aspects of care, biological basis for health and well being, identifying knowledge for nursing practice, origins and expressions of Mental Health and wellbeing, I want to be able to carry out the tasks of providing care and support for people with mental in capabilities, knowing that I am doing so with the full comprehension and grasp of what each patient needs.
Different people look at health in different ways. It can depend on their culture, environment, religion or age group. In order to have a clear understanding about how the people look at health, I have conducted a survey from a random sample of people who belongs to the above groups (e.g. people of different ages have been chosen).
