This report will be identifying the different effect video games have on people, using a variety of different sources including surveys and an interview with a video game developer working for Tru Blu Entertainment.
This report begins by providing a general introduction and a background of the topic that is being researched. This is followed by answering a number of questions that have guided the research. Then a short conclusion at the end.

possibilities for movement in this space?" Video games contribute to the stimulation of the mind
In this research paper, I will be talking about video games and how they are affecting people. 97% of teens in the U.S play video games and studies have shown that children tend to show more empathy and helpfulness in their daily lives when they play video games. This paper will not only talk about random things, but it will talk about the positive and negative affects of video games. Video games are changing the people in this world today, but their changing them in positive and negative ways and video games are helping with many different things.
What are video games? Video games are games programed by a computer programmer showing electronically made images on a television screen. There are different kinds of video games like action, fighting, action adventure, adventure, role playing, shooter, simulation, strategy, sport, survival horror, and fantasy. Video games can be purchased at many stores, for example Game stop, Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Amazon, Kmart, and Toys R Us. These games are so popular that some individuals choose to buy and play video games on the computer. The paper presents information on both sides, leading up to the proof that video games are more harmful to kids.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention used a video game to study how a disease could spread and how people would react. In addition, doctors who play video games have better results in surgery. Video games can be beneficial in many different ways that is usually not considered. With moderate use, video games can even be beneficial to one’s health. It is something that a wide age range group of people can enjoy and benefit from its use. There are also many different genres to satisfy different types of enjoyment. Scientists have conducted many studies about video games to determine whether or not they are healthy. Video games have their positives and negatives similar to most things. Gaming can help with mental problems, recovery of injuries, and help with being physically active.
Throughout my research on the articles that I have read about the positive affects that video games have on us human being’s. Violent games aren’t as bad as people make them out to be, shooter games can build awareness and continuity to a young children’s brain while it can assist and refine their learning skills. Violent games have been tested and researched for years and what researchers are now discovering how shooting games can help relieve PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) for war veterans. As a matter of fact with all these studies & research articles about shooter video games benefiting younger and older audiences, this may be a helpful tool for growing and learning for the future.
Video games are fun to play. Playing video games may help us to forget our stress for a while, but is it really worth our precious time? The popularity of video games is on an upward trend. Every day we see many people playing video games and getting addicted to it. Without caring much about their surroundings, they focus their attention solely on these games. Video games are popular all over the world including the United States. According to the article “Video games,” more than 75 percent American youths have video-game consoles at home, and on a typical day, at least 40 percent of them play a video game (Glazer). The statistics show that the total number of people playing video games is huge. The interesting thing is that the estimates show three-quarters of the population owning a gaming console. Every day people are wasting their precious time sitting in front of Xbox and PlayStation. They seem to be in their own world far away from the reality. They enjoy their virtual achievements more than the real one. Instead of caring about their decreasing grades, they care about their position in the game. Therefore, despite its popularity, these games are actually affecting us in negative ways. The video games have become one of the major problems of this generation because a large number of people are wasting their precious time and hard-earned money in these games instead of doing
Video gaming can cause many health problem, Death, Poor Performance and Preoccupations for people. Video game change the facts how people sees the world in a negative ways which can leads to health problem, Poor performance, Preoccupations and also death. Many teens are into gaming more than before which also increase the cause of problem and addiction. Teens treat gaming as a daily life activity that’s why it causes more negative effects on them than the one who only uses the game during free time. It’s start with playing video game sometime then leads to addictions and problem.
Video games today have become a huge role in the consumption of people’s entertainment. Ninety- seven percent of kids between the ages of 12 and 17 play video games and the industry only shows signs of large growth. In 2016, 24.5 billion games were sold (Nichols) leading to a 21.53 billion dollar industry (“Do Violent Video”). With the growth of new players around the world, the debate has sparked whether video games are beneficial to society or if they come with repercussions. They may be fun for the kids, but the parents may not agree. Research is quickly being done to determine whether they are harmful or helpful. Some believe that the violence and addiction of video games make them a danger to society while others argue there are benefits to playing video games. However, video games have been misrepresented in the media and wrongly blamed for the actions they are not related to. Research has actually shown that video games can come with a large group of benefits that disprove much of the speculation around them. With video games being misrepresented and research suggesting they are beneficial, it is logical and reasonable to come to the conclusion that video games can do more good than harm.
Video games can sometimes get a bad reputation but due to contrary belief, video games have been a positive impact on today’s society. Both children and adults have benefitted from the use of video games. Not to mention the ginormous community video games have brought with it. With things like Esports, video game companies, and the cognitive benefits for adults and children video games are here to stay. So how have they affected today's society in a positive way?
Ninety-seven percent of US children play a minimum of one hour of video games a day (Granic et al. ¶7). Children play video games for a variety of reasons; a survey conducted by Cheryl Olson, an internationally known researcher on the effects of video games, of 1,254 middle schoolers found teens play video games ¨for emotional regulation: as an antidote to boredom and loneliness, to relax, and to vent angry feelings¨(Olson ¶7). Despite the popularity of video games and the emotional benefits they provide, they are believed to be detrimental to teenage development. This is due to studies like the one conducted by Jay Hull, an associate dean of psychology at Dartmouth University, which claim certain video games can cause an increase in ¨alcohol consumption, smoking, aggression, delinquency, and risky sex¨ (¶102). However, those problems can easily be reduced or negated, and playing video games is actually beneficial to teenager´s development when played in moderation.
Video games and people who play them are usually spoken of in a negative connotation because of the stereotype’s surrounding them. This is understandable because most games that people think about when they hear “video game” are the kind that involves sitting for hours on end and involving very little movement. “Aren't they all overweight for lack of physical activity, plus a steady diet of power drinks and junk food?” (Danforth, Health through gaming, 2011). This common way of thinking about the topic of gaming has been burned into a majority of the public’s mind through the media. The media, however, does not cover the side of gaming that is admittedly more hidden from those who do not search for the facts. There is a surplus of video games that are not recognized to be healthy or they are not recognized as video games because they are healthy. Although it is generally disparaged by many, gaming is a convenient and viable way for people to strengthen their body and their brain because gaming provides physical activity, it is used for education in households and schools, and it keeps you mentally stable.
Most of the research done on video games tends to be done on the possible negative effects associated with the medium. From aggression and violence to the connection to mood disorders, video games tend to get a bad reputation. However, there are studies that have been done about the possible positive effects of games as well. There are definitely fewer positive studies than negative, but they are out there for those who search them out. The study that was used by Kendall Ashley in her article “How Videogames Can Help with Depression and Anxiety”, was not one of those studies.
Video gaming is a big deal in today's society. Games are getting more and more real as the years go on for example the game Call of Duty has evolved from just being called Call of Duty to now having 15 different versions of the game that comes out every year with more and more graphic material. Video games are bad for kids because of the negative effects on our brain to make kids dumber, kids do not want to go outside so their becoming overweight, and causing kids to repeat the same stunts in the game which is causing injury and even death.
Many people believe that gamers are antisocial, raged filled, and mentally unstable people. These false actuations of games can have a negative impact on its player base. Such as; games lower your intelligence of its players, it makes them more violent, and isolates them from human contact. Video games have always had a bad wrap from the start and being constantly bombarded from several relentless media outlets. For example, ever since shooting games became popular it’s been the source of blame for recent shootings. When really the real problem isn’t video games, but the person who doesn’t have a reasonable process of thinking or simply you could call them deranged. There’s just so many factors you can debate about saying why or just finding an escape goat. I simply can’t handle when people come to a conclusion of saying the source of the problem is video games because that person plays them. When people make that statement I just find them insanely ludicrous.
Video games are a huge part of everyday life, most likely you have heard of or played at least one nintendo game, or tetris, or gameboy, or something on the xbox. Children of all ages play video games, but recently the question has come up about whether or not they are negatively affecting children. There is a simple answer to that question and it is no. Children who play video games show better performance in perception, attention and cognition. Playing video games helps children emotionally. Video games also better promote social interactions among children.
