Since its creation in 1958, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has had a number of high profile failures, but these breakdowns are heavily outweighed by the multitude of successful missions they have flown. NASA is a very large, well-known government organization with many moving parts within its system. In its 59 years of existence, many of their policies have been slow to change to keep up with modern standards and operations. In spite of this creeping pace of change, the communication department within NASA has been ahead by leaps and bounds when compared to other government organizations. After locating 4 samples of public communication taken from NASA, I have identified a positive change in the communication …show more content…
The telecommunication process came about as the result of NASA creations to advance the technology that is available to businesses and spur growth in the United States. “Thirty-seven percent of U.S. workers say they have telecommuted, up slightly from 30% last decade but four times greater than the 9% found in 1995.” (Gallup). I found a frequently asked questions (FAQ) communication sample that NASA employees can use for their instant meeting audio conferencing. NASA has branches across the country, spanning both space and time zones, which can cause issues with scheduling meetings. NASA benefits from the research and development they put into telecommunication by being able to communicate across both space and time. This communication sample highlights the use of rich media technology channels to transmit information. In this instance, the rich media they are utilizing is the audio conference calls to transmit data heavy communication. The use of the FAQ sample also points to the organization’s use of technologically advanced systems to assist employees in communicating across a variety of platforms. The option of technology in organizations can improve and promote collaboration among team members, which is important when half of a team is at a different location than the other. For example, members of NASA Langley
In the past 50 years, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has sent out many planned space exploration missions which have lead to numerous advantages in society and culture. NASA’s technologies benefit American lives with the innumerable important breakthroughs by creating new markets that have spurred the economy and changed countless lives in many ways. NASA is a federal agency and receives its fundings from the annual federal budget passed by the United States Congress. However, there are conflicting opinions that consider whether or not funding for NASA is a waste of government spending.
How might computerized communication be utilized to improve the effectiveness of communication in a bureaucratic organization?
On January 28th, 1986, Ronald Reagan used his stature as president to show sympathy for the country in the light of tragedy, in his speech entitled “Speech on the Challenger Disaster.” His main point expounds on the importance of the Challenger Disaster in the history of space exploration. He supports this claim by first explaining the effect the disaster had on the public, then offering his sympathy for the families of the astronauts as well as the entire nation, and finally declaring that the country must continue to explore space so the deaths of the astronauts were not in vain. Through Reagan’s use of rhetorical appeals, tone, and rhetorical tools he effectively persuades the American people to maintain confidence in NASA and in space exploration,
As President Eisenhower once stated, “Every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed” (qtd in DeGroot). According to Jerry DeGroot, a lecturer in the Department of Modern History at the University of St. Andrews and author of the widely acclaimed biography “Douglas Haig”, every year, the United States federal government funds the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) with over $17 billion. When Keith Yost, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), was asked about government funding on NASA, he replied, “NASA is not only spending money, but also the sweat of our laborers, the genius of our scientists, and the hopes of our children.” As a powerhouse in the work industry, NASA is taking away from the remainder of the country. Before venturing off into space, the US needs to realize the importance of tackling the issues that lie before the citizens here on Earth. As Richard Truly, a retired Vice Admiral in the United States Navy, stated in agreement, “...I didn’t go to NASA for the United States to make international commitments that wouldn’t keep, to design space vehicles that will never be built (or will be then fail), or to make promises to the American people that will never be kept.” It would be in the best interest for the citizens of the United States federal government to cut NASA funding.
Many of the most popular are used by business employers to talk to each other and to employees. Skype for Business helps connect employers and employees through video chat. This way if the employee needs a visual explanation or example of what is needed to complete, the employer can show them using this program. Google Drive is a popular program that can send files amongst each other using interactive documents. Google drive is much like doc sharing and the Cloud, they allow access to these files from any computer or phone that is logged into the same account. UberConference is another well-known tool companies use. This program records a meeting held by the employer and archives it for people who may have missed the actual, live meeting. A common issue found by telecommuters around the world is the difficulty to find an appropriate time suitable for two completely different time zones. Luckily, with help from programs like UberConference, archives do help but also add to the distance in personal participation normally felt in person during an in-room meeting.
Teleconferencing will be used to the maximum extent possible to communicate to stakeholders in out of town locations. This will help to reduce the amount of travel required and provide for an effective method of communication.
One problem is that NASA, as an organization, has obstacles that inhibit effective communication of vital safety
text messages or even r video calling for over the world conferences using skype. Technology makes it easier for HR to communicate with the workforce.
On July 21, 1969, the United States rocket Apollo 11 landed on the moon, marking a monumental and unprecedented feat of mankind. Culminated as the product of breakthrough innovations in engineering and physics and overwhelming government support (which granted NASA over 4% of the federal budget), the moon landing was the crowning moment of NASA’s accomplishments. At that time, a new era of space exploration seemed to be on the verge of occurrence. However, fifty years later, NASA has seemed to have fallen from its old glory, with the United States Federal government spending only 0.5% of the nation’s federal budget on its space endeavors. With increased concerns of NASA’s
NASA is one of the largest organizations in the world. Although we see it everywhere, most of us take NASA completely for granted. Yet, we are still obliviant of the fact that NASA is a main reason why we can enjoy things like quick and safe plane rides, the internet, and most science fiction movies and books. Little do we know how hard NASA works for our benefit, constantly struggling to find a different way to help not only America, but the whole world.
Imagine you are a father of four children. Your wife passes away from cancer and your family is in desperate need for food. Your family lives in a dilapidated apartment and you work your fingers to the bone to pay the taxes. You want the money that you paid the government to be used efficiently in a way that will affect you directly, such as healthcare, food, or education, not to reach the moon. Yet the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) used about $18 billion in 2014 for their budget. NASA was created by the United States for the research and development of spacecrafts. The United States and the Soviet Union engaged in the Space Race during the Cold War with the development of technology. Achieving human spaceflight enabled them to discover and explore outer space and the rest of the universe. NASA, however, has outlived its original purpose and has cost more than its worth by misusing its time and resources.
On January 28, 1986, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) launched the space shuttle Challenger. The launch was held in Cape Canaveral, Florida, at the Kennedy Space Center. The Challenger shuttle carried seven crew members, including pilots, aerospace engineers and a citizen. Unfortunately, after it launched, the space shuttle broke apart and hit the ocean. The failure of the mission traumatized the whole nation. In fact, millions of people watched the shocking tragedy on television. This incident saddened the nation, and President Ronald Reagan appointed some persons from different areas, such as engineers, pilots, politicians and astronauts, to find the cause of this disaster. Although the investigation revealed that the main reason for the disaster was because of technical issues. In actuality, the disaster was caused by the decision to launch, which was driven by political pressures. The focus on political interest over hard science was the reason for the Challenger disaster.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) was designed on the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), as the locus of U.S.civil aerospace research and development. NASA was officially established on October 1, 1958 , the creation was directed to the pressure of national defense. NASA is responsible for important scientific and technology accomplishments in human aerospace science that have impacted our nation and/or world all across the board. The founder of this great corporation was our 34th President of the United States the honorable Dwight D. Eisenhower. During the Cold war ,which was a combat over theories and faithfulness of separate nations, in the middle of it there was a major battle of space exploration known as the Space Race between the Soviets and United States of America. Like every other corporation, NASA had a mission which was “to pioneer the future in space exploration, scientific discovery and aeronautics research.”and the motto states “For the benefit of All” both mission and motto are correlative to each other.
Imagine a scenario where you could get hold of them in a flash, through the gadget closest to them or know promptly whether they are accessible or in a meeting just by taking a gander at your desktop. Unified communications enables organizations to streamline every one of their channels of communication that get befuddling uniting email, IM, voice and information to guarantee every one of your frameworks and programming are addressing each other.
It is no secret that going to space is an expensive endeavor. In order for programs to get approved, it has to go through a bureaucratic process. An interesting point in this week’s reading is in regards to how new initiatives are not scrutinized through the same standard routing process and how bureaucracy itself manipulates it.
