Recycling can be very interesting and fun if you take the time to learn about it and its benefits. The reason that motivated me into choosing this topic is the fact that I am a recycler and I have experienced some the benefits first hand. I am so used to my habits towards recycling that my conscience will not let me not recycle. At home, no cans get thrown away and if I see an empty grocery bag in good condition it gets reused. There is no cost to recycling and sometimes it may even put some money back in our pockets. Recycling is a good example of a public good and it creates many cost and benefit situations. I believe one day the recycling process will one day save our home, Earth. It has become a part of my life for these reasons and that is why I chose this topic. …show more content…
There are four types of goods private, public, common, and collective. Recycling is a public good which makes it non-rivalrous and non-exclusive, this means that you do not have to pay for it and no one is fighting over who practices it. it is not limited to only a few people and the more recycling there is, the better! It is non-excludable which means there is absolutely no charge for recycling, nothing is given up for it but you still receive many benefits from it. Not everyone recycles but when someone does everyone gets the same benefits from it and no one can really stop that. This situation leads to something called the free-rider
Recycling has become "mandatory" in many states and towns. Landlords can fine a resident for not following the rules of recycling. It was made official awhile back that certain things should not be sent to our landfills, such as paint cans, car parts, and any kind of hazardous materials. Americans are already recycling at a high rate.
Recycling has many benefits not only for the environment, but for the city as well. Financially, it will bring in millions for the city, as it did for Phoenix, Arizona. As the saying goes, "you have to spend money to make money." Everyone in the city does not have money to spend on recycling bins. In order to recycle properly, you must have the right bins for whatever it is you are recycling. Paper must go with paper in the blue bin, etc. If everything is not in order then you would be
To begin with the useful thing that comes out of recycling is that we can make new things for our city. Plasma gasification can help us make fuel for our space station. This is how we eliminate the amount of trash in our city, using these solutions helps our space station and everyone on earth. Getting fuel from our trash will help us power our city and recycling helps us create new things for the people in our city. We get energy, or fuel to power our whole entire city, it helps us with the electricity and powering our space station for our researchers. With being said, we are going to use many ways to manage trash, we will use plasma gasification, burn our trash, etc. How we do it, and why we do it will be safe to the
“We are living on this planet as if we had another one to go to,” By Terri Swearingen. Recycling has been a huge deal ever since we can remember. It benefits the economy, our earth and our lives. By recycling, we create millions of jobs for people who are unemployed and change the way we live to be happier and healthier human beings. Even though recycling is not cost effective, it will save the planet as long as recycling decreases pollution and impede global warming.
Recycling helps extend the life of products that have served its initial purpose and is converted into new materials. It makes the environment clean, saves energy, conserves materials, and reduces garbage in landfills and all of this helps our community tremendously. I personally recycle regularly; in my home we have multiple boxes where my family separates the products we use such as metals, paper, glass, and plastics and then we take them to a recycling center. There are countless people that drink beverages from aluminum and we use paper products every day. Recycling paper products decreases the number of trees cut and preserves the environment. A great thing about the GSU recycling program is that it is easy to practice this on campus
I think that everybody can agree that recycling is necessary and beneficial - for not only our communities throughout the United States, but for the entire World. I remember going on a feild trip in elementary school to see my City's landfill, and I just remember thinking that all of that trash did not have to be there. The longer we put off recycling, the more damage all this trash will cause, and sooner.
One of the worst things that people can gain from recycling is a false sense of security. Recycling is supposed to help the environment, so a person would assume that recycling sites are environmentally safe, but in reality they “are often often unsafe and unhygienic because of the harmful chemicals and large amounts of waste dumped there, which can lead to the toxication of bodies of water” (Thompson). Recycling sites are not any better than waste disposal sites, if not worse. They seem to be causing more damage than repair. Recycling paper is also counterintuitive. Paper accounts for “approximately 80 percent of all materials recycled today… yet recycling doesn’t save forests. Fully 87 percent of our paper stock
Recycling just makes sense. The three R’s of sustainability are Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Ask yourself “Do I really need that?” to help reduce. Stop before throwing items in the trash, look it over and answer the question, “Can I or someone else make use of it in a different way to reuse the items?” I item can be reused by donating? Recycling means something is changed back to its unmade nature, and/or made into something new. You can ask yourself, “Can the materials be made into something new?” The world should work on recycling to reduce landfill buildup and prevent the planet from being covered in waste.
My first reason to support my claim is that if we make recycling mandatory more people save a lot of money on their budget. More people throw away waste products more than they use recyclable products. Reusing recyclable products and not throwing away wasteful items will help save people money by not having to buy more of those wasteful products. In the article “Ways of Recycling” it states “Developing the habit of buying only what you need and reusing products rather than purchasing new ones saves a lot on your budget (C.E.F). ” This supports my reason because they state that reusing products can save you a lot of money. They also support it by stating that if you reuse recyclable products and not buy non-reusable ones, it can also save you a lot of money. My opinion is that a lot of people could be just doing this right now and see the big picture. Yet, they still choose to buy more of those wasteful items.
I feel that the most important part of the recycling process will be getting started, gaining knowledge on what you can and cannot recycle. As well as stepping out of my comfort zone and trying something new that can be beneficial. I believe that most of the time individuals are misinformed about recycling and this is one of the primary reasons that they don’t want to participate in the process. Along with thinking that it might take up more space than it saves or even the fact that it requires you not to be lazy and separate your trash.
With so many waste and recycling centers in our society, I don’t understand why the percentage of wastes being recycled hasn’t increased. According to Mike Biddle, guest speaker of TED Talks, “We Can Recycle Plastic,” states, “Mother nature wastes very little and that humans should not see ourselves as consumers, but see ourselves as users of resources that we are waiting on to be transformed…”. Recycling is the process of converting waste into new, and improved products, we are required to recycle all bottles, cans, paper, and plastics, except for plastic bags. This project deems to prove the immediate and long-term effects it has on our planet; however, many don’t realize the benefits of recycling. Although this project has been going on for quite some time, there needs to be an increase considering the excessive amounts of waste we humans create. While many believe that recycling has no impact, schools and other public properties should encourage recycling.
To elaborate, recycling is a simple, effective way to reuse raw materials and resources which can cut down on environmental impacts such as global warming and pollution from landfills, providing future generations a beautiful and sustainable place to live. Recycling is the process of turning trash that would otherwise be thrown away into reusable products through the steps of collecting and
Recycling is an extremely important issue in our world today. Recycling is the process of converting waste materials into new materials and objects. It is an alternative to conventional waste disposal that can save material and help lower greenhouse gas emissions according to www.wikipedia.com. Recycling basically means to use it again. recycle is a word used for products that have already been used and that instead of just being thrown away, are going to be turned into new products. There are so many materials that can be recycled. The most
Recycling has become an environmental movement and continues to be a reliable remedy for the growing mountains of waste on this planet. The overall cost of recycling decreases as the recycling industry grows and people recycle more frequently and efficiently. According to a study from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, recycling costs $50 per ton while incineration costs $650 per ton (Seltenrich). Saint John’s University stated in their article about myths and facts of recycling that hundreds of companies like Hewlett Packard, Bank of America, and the U.S. Postal Service have saved millions of dollars through recycling programs (“Recycling”). If recycling
Recycling is one of the most important things that the human race should be doing right now. As the population grows, more materials will be needed to sustain it. Things like wood, plastic, aluminum, etc. These materials are used to support the human race in so many ways like transportation and storage. However, these materials will not last forever, especially with the growth rate of our population. That is where recycling comes in. Those materials can be used again and again and again, without having to create more of it. If everyone recycled, then the world could keep sustaining the population without running out of materials. Everyone should be required to recycle because it protects the environment, it will sustain our population for longer, and be more cost effective.
