  • Symptoms
  • Pathology and Diagnosis
  • Treatment
Expert Solution
Step 1

A disease can be defined as malfunctioning of any structure or functional mechanism of the body of any living organism; each disease has its own particular cause, symptoms, and method of treatment.

Step 2
  Celiac Disease

Crohn’s Disease

Ulcerative Colitis

Symptoms Symptoms include diarrhoea, bloating, low levels of energy, anaemia, constipation, weight loss, vomiting, and abdominal pain.

Abdominal cramps, bloody stool, loss of appetite, frequent urge for bowel movements, and fatigue are some of its symptoms.

Presence of blood in the stool, pain in the abdominal area, pain in the rectal area, diarrhoea, and weight loss are its symptoms.

Diagnosis

Various blood tests like serology test (looking for antiendomysium and anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies), complete blood count test, liver function test, serum albumin test, and cholesterol test are used for diagnosis.

It can be diagnosed with the help of stool test, endoscopy of the colon, CT scan, or MRI.

Several clinical tests are used to diagnose Ulcerative Colitis, such as stool test, colonoscopy, CT scan of the abdomen, biopsy, endoscopy of stomach and small intestine.

Treatment

The only treatment for this disease is to avoid food containing gluten.

Medicinal treatments with the use of anti-inflammatory drugs such as oral 5-aminosalicylates, or corticosteroids, along with immunosuppressive drugs, and antibiotics are effective.

Anti-inflammatory medicines like sulfasalazine, olsalazine, along with antibiotics, and analgesics are used for mild conditions. In case of severe issues, the patient needs to undergo surgery like colectomy and ileostomy.
