DEFINITION:Central Semitic, to serve, work; noun *cabd-, servant, slave. 1. Obadiah, from Hebrew cbadyh, servant of Yahweh, from cbad, alternate form of cebed, servant, slave. 2. Abednego, from Hebrew cbd-ngô, probably alteration of cbd-nbô, servant of Nabu, from cbd, alternate form of cebed, servant (nbô, Nabu, from Akkadian nabû).
