Foggini, Giovanni Batista

(jvän´n bäts´tä fdj´n) (KEY) , 1652–1725, Italian sculptor and architect. An important exponent of the Florentine baroque style, Foggini followed Roman models in his architecture (e.g., the Feroni Chapel, Santi Annunziata, Florence). He was influenced by Bernini and Cortona in his sculpture. His relief The Ascent to Heaven of St. Andrew Corsini (1675; Santa Maria del Carmine, Florence) reveals remarkable baroque vigor.
