city (1990 pop. 25,295), seat of Lenoir co., E N.C., on the Neuse River; settled c.1740, inc. 1849. It is a market for bright leaf tobacco and other agricultural products. Also an industrial city, it produces building materials, boats, dairy and other food products, textiles and apparel, chemicals, and appliances.
