(näkä´ts) (KEY) , city (1990 pop. 66,388), Oita prefecture, NE Kyushu, Japan, on the Suo Sea at the mouth of the Yamakuni River. It is a commercial center and port and was the residence of Yukichi Fukuzawa (1835–1901). Porcelain, steel, rice, and silk are its main products.
