(nvl´) (KEY) , Du. Nijvel, city (1991 pop. 23,217), Walloon Brabant prov., central Belgium. It is an industrial center and a rail junction. Manufactures include machinery, linen, cotton goods, and lace. Of note are a 7th-century convent and a Romanesque church (11th cent; rebuilt in the 18th cent.).
