(lw ôskär´ rôt´) (KEY) , 1846–1911, French medalist and engraver, one of the greatest medalists of the 19th cent. His best-known commemorative medals include those for the death of President Sadi Carnot and for the 25th anniversary of the Franco-Prussian War. He also designed French coins. The originality of his graceful designs won him high honors.
