Vero Beach
 
 
(vr´o) (KEY) , city (1990 pop. 17,350), seat of Indian River co., E Fla., on Indian River (a lagoon and part of the Intracoastal Waterway); founded c.1888, inc. 1919. A fruit-producing center and a fishing resort, it also has diversified light manufacturing. Significant urban growth occurred in Vero Beach throughout the 1970s and 80s. Nearby are the noted McKee Jungle Gardens (opened 1931).
