From the opening address of the twenty-sixth annual convention of the National Woman Suffrage Association, held February 15-20, 1894, in Washington, D.C. Anthony had been a leading suffragist for fifty years, had been tried and convicted in 1872 for attempting to register to vote, and would die fourteen years before implementation of the Nineteenth Amendment to the Constitution, granting suffrage to women. |
