ATTRIBUTION:Darlene Cates (b. c. 1947), U.S. actor. As quoted in Newsweek, p. 67 (January 24, 1994).

Cates, a 489-pound arthritic woman who had been virtually housebound, had her first acting role in the 1993 film What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? Her character was sympathetic and dignified; her portrayal was acclaimed. Here, Cates was setting forth her condition for accepting any future film role.
