Questions to address in your lab report 1-What is the relationship between the buoyant force and the volume of the submerged cylinder? the volume of fluid is proportional to the buoyant force since the buoyant force is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the object. Further explanation (mathematical) on paper. 2. Based on your results, does your data support Archimedes' principle? Yes, our data prove that the volume of fluid is proportional to the buoyant force because the buoyant force is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the object. Leading us to be able to successfully determine the density of seven objects using Archimedes’ Principle. 3. What is the density of water that you measured? The measured density of water came out to be 15.846 which came from fitting a linear trendline and plotting our data as seen below. The slope represents the density of water multiplied by gravity. To solve for the density of water we divided the slope by gravity which returned 1,616.94 kg/m^3. Leaving us with a 62.18 % error. 4. How does your measurement of the density for the 1-inch cubes compare to the expected value from their calculated density using their mass and volume? Most of our experimental values were close to the theoretical values of density, with PVC being the most off with a 27.15% error margin. 0.0171/0.02543^3= 1068.75 kgm^3
(1068.75-1467) /1467 x100 = 27.15% 5. Discuss any sources of errors in your measurements. Errors in our measurement could have been derived from not weighing the masses or lengths/heights correctly. Our slope was supposed to come out to some number close to 10 rather than 15 because our water density is around 1000 kgm^3.
