2 Organ Donation Before this course I can confidently say, I was not for donating my organs. This was due to lack of education on the topic which I have now cleared up through researching the topic. There are several pros to donating your organs, but with that comes cons, too. Organ donation is a topic that needs to be further discussed to educate individuals on the facts, pros, and cons in order for someone to make an informed decision. My stance on organ donation is that if I am able to, I will donate my organs. I definitely would not donate my organs through living organ donation unless it were to a family member or someone I know. Several key factors led me to this decision. The first one being that I cannot take my earthly body with me wherever I may go when I pass. Also, donating your organs is an incredibly selfless act that gives so many others opportunity to lead healthy lives. The reason I would opt out of living organ donation is because the risks of infection and the aftermath healing (Mayo Clinic, 2024). Additionally, living organ donation does not come with a guarantee that the recipient’s insurance will cover follow up visits or other medical needs that may arise from the transplant. I have heard many individuals around me have negative things to say about deceased organ donation. Some of those myths have been proven wrong through my research. One myth is that doctors may not try as hard to save you if you are a donor. Now, I might add, as I have matured a bit, this one seems crazy to believe, but I did at one point. The truth is, that would be considered unethical (Cedars-Sinai Staff, n.d). Deceased organ donation truly doesn’t include any cons to the donor themselves, but possibly the recipients. Through all of my readings, there is nothing I can find that would be considered a con in donating my organs once I pass. However, there are many factors in living
