These are terms relevant to text that may be referred to: (they may differ from text)
Allostasis:
the process by which a state of internal, physiological equilibrium is maintained
by an organism in response to actual or perceived environmental and psychological
stressors Therefore, allostasis is the process that keeps the organism alive and functioning,
i.e. maintaining homeostasis or “maintaining stability through change” and promoting
adaptation and coping,
Homeostasis:
the tendency of a system, especially the physiological system of animals, to
maintain internal stability (goal) owing to the coordinated response of its parts (response) to
any situation or stimulus (external/internal) tending to disturb its normal condition or
function (reference memory).
Equilibrium:
A state of rest or balance due to the equal action of opposing forces.
Coping:
to face and deal with responsibilities, problems, or difficulties, especially
successfully or in a calm or adequate manner:
Coping strategy
: an action, a series of actions, or a thought
process
used in meeting a
stressful or unpleasant situation or in modifying one's reaction to such a situation.
Coping
strategies typically involve a conscious and direct approach to problems, in contrast to
defense mechanisms.
Adapted:
To make suitable to requirements or conditions; adjust or modify fittingly. To
adjust oneself to different conditions, environment.
1.
Please explain the distinction between actual and perceived stressors relevant to the
understanding of allostasis:
1a. Please explain the independent variables producing the content of the internal
state of the organism
1b. Please explain the dependent variables describing the content of the internal
state of the organism
2.
Please explain the distinction between environmental and psychological stressors
relevant to the understanding of allostasis:
2a. Please explain the independent variables producing the content of the internal
state of the organism during allostasis
2b. Please explain the dependent variables describing the content of the internal
state of the organism during allostasis
2c. Please explain the neurological and psychological stages that occur between the
occurrence of the independent variable and the measurement of the dependent
variables
3.
Please explain the role that adaptation and coping play in allostasis:
3a. The independent variable applied during coping is:
3b. The dependent variable measured during coping is:
3c. Please explain the neurological and psychological stages that occur between the
occurrence of the independent variable and the measurement of the dependent
variables that change the dependent variable
4.
Please explain how results obtained about the transition from external events to
internal states using psycho-physical methods inform your understanding of your
answers to number 1-3.
4a. The three components involved in the psycho-physical process are:
4b: please describe the independent variables for each of the 3 stages of psycho-
physical processes:
4c: please describe the dependent variables for each of the 3 stages of psycho-
physical processes:
4d. Please explain the neurological and psychological stages that occur between the
occurrence of the independent variable and the measurement of the dependent
variables during the psycho-physical transition
5.
Please explain the initial problem state of the organism not experiencing
homeostasis:
5A. Please explain the independent variables describing the content of the internal
state of the organism during this stage
5B. Please explain the dependent variables describing the content of the internal
state of the organism during this state
6.
Please explain the final goal state of the organism experiencing homeostasis:
6A. Please explain the independent variables describing the content of the internal
state of the organism during this stage
6B. Please explain the dependent variables describing the content of the internal
state of the organism during this state
7.
What is expended by the organism to maintain the homeostatic state of equilibrium:
8.
What psychobiological strategy during your answer to number seven is deployed to
maintain that homeostatic state of equilibrium:
