Reflection This assignment taught me many new skills that I did not have before. I have never written a proper script before, so this was interesting to me. I looked into proper script format, to ensure I was on track. I enjoy watching movies and tv shows and seeing what happens behind the scenes and how hard it is to form a script, made me appreciate those people more than before. This experience took place on a wednesday night, I was trying to figure out where and how to start the story. So, I envisioned the characters in a movie and attempted to map it out that way. Writing a script challenges you in a way that you have never been challenged before in other forms of writings such as essays. It is imperative for a script to be detailed in order for the reader to grasp the story and purpose. This script writing task will benefit me in my other writing pieces such as essays. Which also require you to be detailed in your explanations, which I have struggled with before. But now, I can envision the arguments in my papers as if it were a movie to help me write more detailed, more efficient arguments. Choosing the second scenario on gender dysrphoria allowed me to learn more about the transgender community and it helped me understand them better. I learned how to create a proper script utilizing proper format. In my script, I was attempting to illustrate how people members of the LGBTQ+ community struggle with being who they want to be due to family members with outdated ideas, like Michael (the father) in the story. In my story I showed Michael wanting to understand his Jo and willing to change his outdated views and learn to accept Jo. This is to send the message that people can change and to kids in Jo’s shoes, never give up on who you are to please family members. I added to the story that Michael is christian, which is an assumption, but in my experience most christian families including my own are transphobic and refuse to acknowledge it. I have heard many christians argue that it is in the bible but I wanted to send that

message tbat you can be Christian and still support the transgender community. I can relate this assignment to the “This means that” assignment where one of the categories was voice/identity. I found myself relating Jo to Martina Navratilova who fought for her voice to be heard and didn’t care about the stigma that would surround her. Jo did the same thing, she continued being who she is not caring if Michael approved or not.
