This introduction will be based on questions their classmates ask them after they introduce themselves. B. The learner will be able to answer questions asked by their classmates. C. Vocabulary or concepts (Identify any new or difficult vocabulary or concepts that are required for this lesson,describe how and when they will be addressed in the lesson). Introductions Taking Turns
Students will become familiar with taking turns and talking about the subject offered by the teacher. They need to learn how to formally introduce themselves and how to take turns speaking as a class. This way when it is someone's turn to speak, they know when they can and cannot speak. We will go over the introduction video and I will express why it is important for the students to take turns and formally introduce themselves. This lesson goes with ELA and also lifeskills. Differentiation and UDL strategies needed for this lesson Engagement- I will use songs and visual aids to support students' engagement. Supporting self- regulation by using the daily binders and sending homework home. Representation- Sharing videos that allow students to understand the importance of introductions and using visuals when needed. Action and expression- Students will be able to use assistive technology when needed. Students will be able to communicate questions and answers to their peers. Level 1: Recall & Reproduction Recognizes, responds, remembers, memorizes, restates, absorbs, describes, demonstrates, follows directions, applies routine processes, definitions, and procedures Lesson Components Time Needed Lesson Activities -Describe in detail what the teacher and students will be doing). **Provide details about any needed differentiation in each section. Anticipatory Set/Activating Background Knowledge Lesson planning tip: Describe how you will review any lesson or prior knowledge that is relevant 10 mins Teacher will address the class with the lesson which is morning introductions. She will express to the class that they will come up one at a time and introduce themselves. They will state: Name Address
to the current lesson. You need to help students see the purpose of the lesson and connect with prior knowledge. Phone Number Names of Parents. (This lesson will also help them memorize important information that they may need to use in real life situations. ) The teacher will then demonstrate by allowing the students to ask her what her name is. The teacher will then show them a jar which is filled with questions they can ask their classmates. Questions such as what is your favorite color. Students who use speech devices will have these answers listed under the about me section on their device. Then present/teach the new skill/concept/content. It is important to explain the PURPOSE – do this as often as possible. Students will understand why they are doing something, and it will help them focus on the elements important to the task, and will increase comprehension and motivation. 15 mins Students will gain an understanding of the importance of memorizing these important things. Students need to know what their name is, where they live and other factors. This is important so if they have to ever use this in real life situations. Before morning introductions, students will practice writing their name and address in their daily binders. If the student requires hand over hand assistance, this will be provided by the staff. If the student requires tracing, this will also be provided by the staff. If the student requires velcro folders this will also be supplied by the staff.
