Discuss at least three (3) important considerations when determining patrol distribution: When I think of patrol distribution the first thing that should be considered is determining the areas that have the highest crime rates. Those would be the areas that needs more patrol. Typically areas that are impoverished have higher crime rates because resources and means for survival are less available. The lack of basic needs being met increases the likely hood of violently crimes being committed for survival. Another consideration that should goes into patrol distribution is population. When you have high populated areas there are less resources like food, transportation and grocery stores and jobs. Competing for limited resources requires some form of management of those resources. This natural competition for resources increases the likely hood of crimes. Areas often become over populated due to cost of living being cheaper in certain areas. This causes more people to move to these areas because of affordability. Another factor that should be considered is the execution of patrols. Every community is different so periods of the daily where crimes are committed at higher rate in one area, may be lower for other areas. So actually implementing patrol times and policies best suited for that particular area would could be the most effective way to increase patrols. Compare patrol allocation and distribution differences in a major urban city and a small rural community. What is similar, what is different, and why? One major difference between major urban cities and smaller rural communities is the population. Typically large urban communities have less resources because the demand for resources there is much higher. Its harder to find food, transportation and jobs due the scarcity of resources. Rural communities are typically smaller and have a small population of people. In a lot of these communities they can provide their
own food by growing it or buying from local farms. There is less competition for food and jobs which can produce a higher quality of life. These factors contribute to lower crime rates in smaller rural communities. According to USA facts, in 2021 the rate of violent victimization in urban communities was 24.5 per 1000 people compared to 11.1 per 1000 people in rural communities. So the crime rate is more than doubled in urban communities. References: Clark, P. (2018, March 14). The real root of all evil? overpopulation! .
