My Name is Belkisa, and I go by Beki. I currently live in the southwest suburbs outside of Chicago. I have been in the health care industry for about 16 years. I have worked and different type of specialties as a medical assistant. I am currently a clinical supervisor for five obstetrics and gynecology clinics. I love what I do and get to see the beautiful Mamas go through their pregnancy and meet the little angels at the end of the road. For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to work in the healthcare industry. Throughout so many years I have been under different type of management and always knew I wanted to be a leader and be that person that my team members can come to right think they may need. My door is always open to my staff, and I am always available via, email, text or in person. I graduated from SNHU in May of 2021 with a BS of Healthcare Administration and Management. I told myself I would take a year break and go back for my Masters, and this is exactly where I am today. I want to be able to grow within my career and become a Practice Manager or Director. I would love to run my own clinic. In my free time I like to hike, visit the zoo with my children, family vacations, going to the pool, BBQ, and lay out in the sun. “Scarcity and choice address the problem of limited resources and the need to economize (Henderson, 2018).” As the fundamentals and needs of economic principles within healthcare include trade, choice, opportunity costs, and scarcity, each o these are ways that the government uses for guidance on how to make decisions, allocate funds, change policy/procedures, and discussion of the insurance cost itself to the consumers. Each of these categories are important in the healthcare aspects. We can have both positive and negative impacts. When we take a look at the positives we know that being able to provide services from basic doctor visits to surgery is all abut how funds are being allocated, stakeholders are involved, and being able to continue bringing in funds that would increase the allocation funds for the organization to be able to provide services to those who may not be able to afford them. As for the negative impacts we know that there are services that are being performed which bring in more reimbursement from the insurance vs performing services that are necessary but less in refund. With these decisions not only providers but healthcare organizations have seen a decline in patient return and lawsuits for unnecessary services rendered. The healthcare industry must always keep focus on their ethics, yes, they do steer away from those at times, but they need to be wheeled back. Many providers need to know how to find a good balance between being able to provide safe care, maintain and make ethical decisions, and advocate for themselves and the patient. These are all challenging, but thy must be done. Cost is always viewed by everyone and questioned by patients. as cost is important this is also one od the reasons many patients make healthcare decisions due to the cost of services. If a procedure of medication costs too much the patient would deny or not follow through. Making these decisions due to finances is what is causing our people within the communities to have poor health outcomes. Based on these daily decisions that we do see everyday we as healthcare providers, workers and organizations need to start prioritizing and thinking of how we can provide safe care and continues practicing ethics without costing lives of others. We need to do better.
