CHANNEL DESIGN HOMEWORK Assignment: You are an entrepreneur who has developed a new form of candy. Based on your expertise in flavor formulation, you have gained significant venture capital support and are planning to sell the product nationwide, but your entire company consists of the 4 people who work with you in development. You have contracted exclusive production and now face the task of channel design for the new product to assure all possible outlets. You have to think through all the possible outlets for single serve candy and consider what it would take to get your product in those outlets. 1. List the types of outlets where your customers might purchase your candy. - Convenience stores - Gas stations - Supermarket - Grocery stores - Drug stores - Gift shops - Movie theaters - Online resellers / retailers - Vending machine 2. List all the marketing intermediaries [not complete supply chain] you need in order to reach these outlets. - The marketing intermediaries would be the retailers, wholesalers, distributors, and marketing services agents. 3. Consider in detail what functions would each intermediary perform to add value to the channel? All of these intermediaries help make the channel distribution process possible and fluid. - Retailers: they help in getting the product to consumers, taking the form of department stores, supermarkets, convenience stores, online stores, and more, making the process easier instead of having to get a store at a location; also aid in promotion of product and with direct correlation to consumer can give feedback to the the company - Wholesalers: similar to the retailers, however, they would be selling the product at a lower price; they can even purchase the candy in bulk and can sell to retailer at a higher price point; can also provide distribution services as well to clients - Distributors: this intermediary would take care of physically distributing the product, aiding the company in stocking and transporting the goods, in this case candy to the respective destinations– resellers (retailers and wholesaler); deliver the product from the factory / wherever the product is produced - Marketing service agents: they do the marketing research, advertising / media, and consulting that aids the company in selling the products in the target markets; promote the product to not only consumers, but resellers
4. Draw the marketing channel of distribution from your company to the end user. Submit your homework through the Turnitin link.
