Becoming a Teacher Leader S6 Assignment: Aligning artifacts to standards and performance indicators · Choose 3 artifacts from any coursework you took up to now, under the corresponding NC Professional Teaching Standards (NTPTS). · Look for the standard it corresponds and write it in the respective box at the right. · Write first the number and letter of the performance indicator your artifact demonstrates under that particular standard (for example 1a, or 2b, etc.) · Write a brief description of the artifact. · How did this artifact impact your own learning and growth as an early childhood educator? This might include what you learned about and from children, families, about yourself as a teacher, ways you have improved or would improve its use the next time. NC Professional Teaching Standards (NCPTS) and Performance In- dicators Artifacts Include first which performance indicators your artifact demonstrates, then the description of the assignment and how it affected your development as early childhood pro- fessional. STANDARD 2: TEACHERS ESTABLISH A RESPECTFUL ENVIRON- MENT FOR A DIVERSE POPULATION OF STUDENTS 2a: Teachers provide an environment in which each child has a posi- tive, nurturing relationship with caring adults.  2b: Teachers embrace diversity in the school community and in the world.  2c: Teachers treat students as individuals.  2d: Teachers adapt their teaching for the benefit of students with spe- cial needs.  2e: Teachers work collaboratively with the families and significant adults in the lives of their students.  2d: So I have two kids that are very special in my class one has a diagnose of autistic and the other has nothing as of right now, but its in place to get him the help. With these two kids we have to change the way we would normally do things because we have to meet their needs to. Its hard and there are days I feel like I haven’t did anything to help them learn but they are in a classroom full of 20 students and it takes all I can to keep them there until 12 everyday. STANDARD 3. TEACHERS KNOW THE CONTENT THEY TEACH 3a: Teachers align their instruction with the NC Standard Course of Study (or any accepted curriculum standards for preschool such as NC Foundations for Early Learning or the Creative Curriculum) 3b: Teachers know the content appropriate to their teaching specialty. 3c: Teachers recognize the interconnectedness of content areas/dis- ciplines. 3d: Teachers make instruction relevant to students. 3a: Yes we have a new curriculum that is only two years old. So we are still learning things as we go about it. We are having to file everything together this year and keep it organize so next year will be even better. 2
