GOVT -2305 1. What does “civil right” mean? Discuss with the support of at least two examples. Civil rights mean basic, fair rights that everyone should have, no matter their differences. These rights make sure people are treated equally. For instance, the right to vote allows everyone to choose their leaders, and laws against discrimination at work mean people can't be treated unfairly based on their race or gender. Civil rights make sure everyone has a fair chance and is treated with respect. 2. What are the similarities and differences between civil liberties and civil rights? Explain with the support of at least three examples. Civil liberties and civil rights both protect people, but they focus on different things. Civil liberties are about individual freedoms protected from government actions. For example, freedom of speech allows people to express their thoughts openly. Civil rights, on the other hand, ensure fair treatment and prevent discrimination. For instance, laws against racial discrimination in housing make sure everyone has a chance to live in a good home. While both protect individuals, civil liberties like freedom of religion and civil rights like the right to equal education aim to create a just and free society for everyone.
