Module 5 The Middle East Group Assignment 1. Outline the major similarities and differences between Christianity and Islam. How would U.S. society be different if Islam was the major religion historically and culturally, instead of Christianity? Muslims and Christians both believe in the one true God. The God of Abraham. Muslims and Christians also both believe Jesus is coming back. One major difference between the two is understanding who Jesus is. Muslims don't associate him at all with the God.   Another is, Muslims believe in all the previous prophets like Adam, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Ishmael, Moses, etc. Lastly, the U.S. society be different if Islam was the major religion historically and culturally, instead of Christianity . 2. You have been asked by a group of young people trying to promote democracy in one of the Middle Eastern nations where the Arab Spring failed to bring about real democracy. What would you advise this group to do? Are there technologies, strategies, ideas, or lessons from other non-violent efforts in other countries, other parts of the world, or in the U.S. that could help this group promote democracy in their country? T o promote democracy, the group should focus on grassroots efforts, empowering local communities, and fostering dialogue and cooperation among various stakeholders. They can leverage technologies, strategies, and lessons from successful non-violent democratic movements worldwide, such as community organizing, capacity building, advocacy and awareness, non-violent resistance, coalition building, election observation, legal and policy reforms, education and cultural programs, and support from abroad. 3. You have been appointed as advisers to the Biden Administration to solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. What are the major causes of this conflict? What would you proposed to bring an end to this conflict? What groups would support your plan? Why? What groups would oppose your plan? Why? The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a long-standing and complex conflict that has its roots in the early 20th century. The major causes of the conflict can be traced back to many key factors such as The Balfour Declaration, Jewish Immigration and Land Purchases, The 1948 Arab-Israeli War, etc. To bring an end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, I would propose a multi-step approach that addresses the key issues at the heart of the conflict. Like advocating for the implementation of a two-state solution, where Israel and Palestine would exist as separate and equal states. Also advocating for a fair and just solution that addresses the rights and needs of both Palestinian refugees and Israeli citizens. Lastly, I would propose a significant increase in economic and social support for the Palestinian
Authority to help build a strong and stable economy in a future Palestinian state. This would include investment in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and job creation.
