1 Potential Solutions for the American Prison System CJA340: Corrections
2 Potential Solutions for the American Prison System Over the past decade, incarceration rates have risen dramatically throughout the United States. Andre Norman discusses the amending issues within the American prison system and his take on how to reduce recidivism from within the facilities. Many offenders within in the prison system are given a sentence they are required to serve and once that time is up, they’re sent back into our communities. Studies have shown that people who are released, are more than likely to relapse and commit another crime, causing them to be sent back to prison. “ In a 2014 study, the Bureau of Justice Statistics found that 67.8 percent of prisoners released in 2005 were imprisoned again within three years and 76.6 percent within five years. This is a prime example that correctional staff members don’t have a handle on their own facilities and inmates. Another issue we see is recidivism after incarceration, these individuals spend time being isolated from their families and the real world for a certain amount of time, why? Shouldn’t they
