Title of Lab Name of Student University of Arkansas Grantham Date Introduction: To determine half live through a virtual experiment detector Background: To learn how to use radioactive samples and how they emit radiation which can be measured by a detector. Methods: We learned how to use the physics saviory to find the data for the tables and we also used data wrapper. Data: 1001+1003+1042/3=1015.3 Bismuth 211 Initial Activity 300 decays/sec Total time (secs) Trial 1: Decays/10 secs Trial 2: Decays/10 secs Trial 3: Decays/10 secs Average Decays/10s 0 0 0 0 0 30 374 402 419 398.3 60 768 776 774 772.67 90 1001 1003 1042 1015.3 120 1199 1243 1255 1232.3 150 1401 1399 1444 1414.67 180 1592 1627 1615 1611.3 210 1766 1766 1756 1762.67 240 1905 1892 1875 1890.67 626+562+576/3=588 Bismuth 211 Initial Activity 170 decays/sec Total time (secs) Decays/10 secs Decays/10 secs Decays/10 secs Average Decays/10s 0 0 0 0 0 30 254 204 210 222.66 60 476 496 413 461.66 90 626 562 576 588 120 768 709 711 729.33 150 880 847 827 851.33 180 982 937 918 945.66 210 1066 1007 1017 1030 240 1142 1060 1094 1098.66
Analysis: The average calculations are listed above in the data section, as well as the graphs. We used the timer and counts to find all of the data for the first two table then in the last column all we had to do was take the data from the first three column and find the average. Conclusion: Your conclusion should address three things: a brief summary of your results, a discussion of possible sources of error, and a discussion of some way that the concepts or tools used in this lab could be used to be applied to a real-world problem or extended to investigate other question. The results I can up with I feel very confident about because for me this weeks assignment was fairly easy after figuring out what to do and how to do it using the providing links given. I think they biggest possible error and something I had happen was not setting the decay to the correct number such as 300 and 170 I forgot to change it the first time and accidentally had the decay set at 108. Some tools we used in this lab was https://www.datawrapper.de/charts and https://thephysicsaviary.com/Physics/Programs/Labs/Half-LifeLab/
