Do you know that feeling when you have no privacy or personal space and you just want to express violence, well that is how zoo animals feel every day. I am against zoos because animals are not able to run free, can be mistreated, and can cause animals to come out aggressive towards others. According to the PETA, the article "13 Times Zoos Were Bad for Animals", baby animals in the Minnesota Zoo's farm display grew up and lost their youthful look, the zoo sent them to livestock auctions. These zoo animals were sent off to a livestock auction because the zoo didn't accept their natural beauty. I am in consonance with PETA's opinion on saving animals. According to BBC, between 3,000 to 5,000 healthy zoo animals are killed a year in Europe.
The treatment of animals in zoos has become a very debatable issue, as animals deserve to live in their natural habitat with their family, but they are having to live in cramped, fake living spaces for nearly all their lives, separated from their families, not much room to walk around and being very bored.
First of all, the animals in zoos aren’t always treated right. Animals are sometimes beaten to be taught. Animals might be hard headed but that is still not a reason to beat them. Animals aren’t always mistreated by zookeepers. They might even be mistreated by visitors. Zoos don’t always care about the money. According to peta kids.com, a lot of times
Having the animals captive at a zoos does damage to the animals in all aspects. It is not an enjoyable experience for animals at all. The fact that they are having their freedom abruptly ripped away does have an effect of them. On top of not having their freedom anymore, they are now locked up in a cage with people just staring at them. They are being snatched out of their natural habitat and some flew mile away from their natural geographic location. Humans would not want to leave their natural habitat suddenly and put into a very small cage. Keeping animals in captivity can, and does, cause immense mental suffering to the species put on display for our pleasure (Wildlife,2007). The animals start to develop a behavior called stereotypical behaviors or zoochosis. It is a repetitive behavior that serves no obvious purpose which include pacing, circling, biting themselves, self mutilation, and many more. Some of the zoogoers do not even realize this behavior from the animals. Therefore,
According to Barbara J. King (2015), in his article why do European zoos kill healthy animals? In European zoos, they kill healthy animals to dissect them to explain them to school children. In Copenhagen Zoo, they killed the giraffe then they dissected it and explained it to schoolchildren, then they gave the remains to the lions as food. This happen anger many people in America and Denmark. The European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) support killing the animals for keep the genetic term for long time, also they said that it is ok to kill animals for the educational purposes. In the other hand, the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), said that they do not follow the killing animals for breeding. King said that he cannot imagine
Some people may go to the Zoo expecting a pleasant experience but leave questioning whether or not the captivity of animals is morally acceptable in the first place. They have not been the only ones. Many people take into consideration what happens to the animals while in confinement. Placing and keeping animals in cages can deprive the animals of their most basic needs. I disagree with the way animals can be treated in Zoos because it violates their freedom and it fails to meet the requirements for a healthy life.
Zoos try to send the message that they intend to be there for conversation purposes, or to educate the viewers that come into the zoo, but that isn’t always the case. More zoos than you think have been under investigation or received backlash for the amount (or lack of) care that the animals get, and all because they were under the care of humans. If you were to look up zoos under
Zoos are built to help animals and to give information to common people about the behaviour of these animals. It is shocking to know that in zoos also animals are tortured very badly. These animals are often kept in small cages. These cage are hardly been cleaned. They are full of animal excreta. There are very less medical facilities available in the zoos.
Zoos are meant to be homes and a sanctuary for animals. But is that really the case, according to the article Ten Facts about Zoos it states,”A CAPS study found that at least 7,500 animals – and possibly as many as 200,000 – animals in zoos are ‘surplus’ at any one time.” So what that means that they execute any animals that have overpopulated. If zoos are over populated then why not set the animals free. The point of a zoo is to keep endangered animals safe from predators how can we do that if we are another reason why they are dying. Setting them free
If you’ve ever been to a zoo, you know that the people there know about the animals they take care of. You know that the animals are in excellent condition, as a result of being treated royally. You know that zoos are not seen as an animal prison, rather an effective and efficient modern way of preserving the life of endangered species. For centuries, people have kept animals in captivity in order to awe at their beauty. In the beginning, zoos were simply iron cages, and animals were mistreated, however, now this has changed, animals are treated wonderfully and cared for daily. Yes, being in a zoo limits the animals’ roaming space, and causes them to lose their survival instinct, however, zoos are an appropriate way to protect wildlife and endangered animals, as they care for, and protect endangered species, zoos provide everything the animal needs, and they have a positive impact on the citizens’ opinions about animals.
Today’s zoos are prime providers of entertainment, encouraging people in their thousands to come along and experience the reality of captured animals in small, useless and uninhabitable enclosures. The constant flash of cameras and pressing noses to the glass has become the signature of the zoos which house these precious creatures, yet what we fail to identify is the constant horror and neglect these poor, harmless animals are subjected to. So why should these animals be treated so cruelly?
In denotative terms, a zoo is “ a collection of living animals usually for public display.” This relatively simple definition gives no indication of the implications a zoo has for animals confined to their cages. Very few federal laws protect the millions of wild animals who live in captivity in aquariums, circuses, theme parks, and zoos in the U.S. “On the federal level, the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) is the only statute that protects the welfare of individual zoo animals. Under the AWA, animals, in the custody of a dealer or exhibitor are protected by regulations governing their care, handling, and transport. All cold-blooded animals are excluded from the Act’s definition of animal. The Act gives power to the Secretary of Agriculture, whose power is further delegated to the Animal Plant
Zoos might help with protecting these endangered animals, but it turns their mind into something else. When animals get moved into these small spaces and caged to be viewed by hundreds of people, that might drive them a little mad. Even though zoos try to give animals enough room to roam, fly, run, climb and
These animals can't survive in zoos forever, their being taken away from their real habitats. They’re being used for money, entertainment, and publicity. Zoos shouldn’t exist because they’re harmful and not safe for the animals, they use them like they’re in the circus and for advantage, and they use them for their own lives.
Animals can be harmed in a zoo if not careful and knowing what the zoo can do. Zoos should not exist but i will settle for being fined these are some reasons zoos should be fined for the animals poor state of place and mind this can mean bad things for people that try hard for a living and are just trying to help the animals but are they helping no they are not they are just making things a lot worse.
First I am against zoos because of animal cruelty, abuse, and stress on the animals. At zoos many people hit and yell at the animals through the glass and that is a type of abuse and it makes the animals stressed and/or depressed. This shows abuse and stress towards the animals, instead of doing that you could just LOOK. Animals may not be as depressed and boring to see. Also zoos trade or sell off animals because they don't make as much money as baby animals. The adult animals get put in a circus or get slaughtered. Imagine if you got sold or slaughtered because you weren't a baby anymore. How would you feel? This also shows abuse and animal cruelty because they might have to live their life in a circus or have their ended because you are an adult. Finally, people throw trash in the cages so the animals can die or get sick. They also can't escape if there is a flood, fire, or other disasters. So they die of get hurt which is abuse. FInally this shows
