Emma Burke, and Fred Hewitt were the author’s of one of the few Eyewitness novels that wrote about the quake. Would you like to be in that town? Would you like to have your house get destroyed? Both eyewitness accounts compare because, they both talk about the Destruction of the Earthquake. As Fred Hewitt states, “The ground rose and fell like an ocean at receding tide. Then came the crash. Tons upon tons of that mighty pile slid away from the steel framework and destructiveness of that effort was enormous.” Pg.1 Para.3. Fred is describing the huge wreck of the earthquake, which supports the fact that they talk about the destruction of the earthquake. As Emma Burke states, “The shock came, and hurled my bed against an opposite wall. I sprang up, and, holding firmly to the foot-board managed to keep on my feet to the door. The shock was constantly growing heavier; rumbles, crackling noises, and falling objects.” Page.1 Para.4.
