Physical abuse is when a child is physically hurt or injured (hitting, kicking, burning, scalding, beating with objects, throwing and shaking, poisoning, drowning and suffocating are all physical abuse and cause pain, cuts, bruising, broken bones, internal bleeding/damage and sometimes even death). It also includes encouraging children to harm another child or giving harmful substances to children or young people, such as alcohol or other drugs.

Neglect is the "failure to provide for a child's physical needs" (Arizona Child Abuse Info Center, 2016). For example, if a child is experiencing a lack of supervision, inappropriate housing, or shelter, inadequate provision of food, inappropriate clothing, abandonment, and denial of medical care, it must be reported by the Mandated Reporter (Arizona Child Abuse Info Center, 2016).

Sexual abuse, neglect, mental abuse, exploitation, and physical abuse, a problem that goes around is that people only think it 's an abuse if it 's violent. However, that 's not the only difficulty that children suffer from being abused. When a parent purposely tells a child that could mentally break them down, is also a form of abuse; mental abuse. Child neglect can conclude into hurting the health of those children during and after the beating.The abuse doesn 't stop when the guardian leaves them alone, because it 's always there in the back of their mind; haunting them.

Firstly, many people are aware that child maltreatment includes physical, sexual and emotional abuse, but some are unaware that neglect is also included in its definition. Any form of abuse of a child has detrimental effects that can last throughout their life. Physical abuse is any unwonted physical connection that occurs with the intent on harming the child like hitting, punching, burning or kicking. Sexual abuse is any form of inappropriate sexual acts towards the child, which can include just touching or taking photographs. Emotional abuse is the act of hurting a child emotionally with words, taunts or just exposure to behavior that affects them mentally. Finally, neglect is when a parent or guardian withholds or does not provide all the things the child needs to live, like food, clothing and shelter. All of these are forms of maltreatment, which are all dangerous for a child

Although child neglect is a problem facing many children in elementary schools in many countries across the world, coming up with an effective method of dealing with the problem poses a huge challenge because some forms of parental neglect have been characterized with various mental problems. Generally, the most affected kids by any form of parent or caregiver neglect are those in elementary schools because they are at the age where they require full support in every area of their lives from their parents. Some forms of parental neglect include: lack of giving kids the emotional support they need, proper nutrition, quality housing and education among other forms.
