There will always be two thing guaranteed in life, death and taxes. Now the first part, no one can really help you with that. But part two, that is where certified public accountants come to the rescue. CPAs are trusted financial advisors who help people, business, and other organizations plan ahead to the future so they can reach their financial goals. Whether financial reporting, internal auditing, or yes, review tax returns, CPAs are a key cog in the financial area of businesses to make sure that they are running smoothly, efficiently, and legally. For my interview, I was granted an interview with Peg Breeding, a CPA with over 20 years of experience in both the corporate world and at her own practice. The point of the interview was to …show more content…
She responded right away saying that she would be happy to help and we set up an interview for the next night at her house. After arriving and settling in, we started the interview. When asked about her education, Peg told me she graduated the University of Texas at Arlington with a bachelor’s in Business Administration, but stay for her master’s degree, since it wasn’t really seen as a requirement back then. Next, I asked her to speak about her prior work experience, to which she responded by telling me that after college, she got her CPA certification and went to work as a public accountant for Ernst & Young, then a Big 8 firm. After a few years, she met her husband Tom and got married. Since he was working at Dell at the time and located in Plano, she left her Ft. Worth job at Ernst and Young and got a job with GrandMet as a public accountant for one of their companies, Pearle Vision. While she said she loved her job, driving back and forth from Highland Park (where her job was based) each day, plus all the travel she had to do all of the country to do audits for the company started to take its toll. So she left GrandMet and was hired at Electronic Data Systems (EDS, former Fortune 100 company) as a corporate accountant. She said she enjoyed her time there, but in 2009 with a buyout looming at EDS, she went on the job hunt again. Citing her want to spend more time with her kids and her need for a balanced life, she left the corporate world at opened up her own practice
One of the advantages to being a CPA within a large firm is that you have the opportunity to work in many areas of accounting for many varied company clients. This will give me a multifaceted experience level not easily obtained while working independently or for a smaller firm. I hope to have the opportunity to do some forensic accounting work where I would prove suspected embezzlement within a client’s company (S. Westfield, personal interview, August 1, 2008).
Certified Public Accountants handle a variety of jobs and task. They can offer tax income tax preparation and advise to range of clients including individuals, small businesses, and corporations. Some might choose to work as a forensic accountant to investigate accounting fraud that requires reviewing accounting reports, records and systems to expose any evidence of criminal activities. Other might choose a different path like consultation service, because they rather assist in financial matters with a private clients, not-for-profit organizations, government institutions and financial firms.
On Wednesday, February 24, 2016, I conducted an interview with Professor Clarissa Wilkerson, JD, CPA. As an accounting major, I am extremely interested in pursuing a career in accounting and am a student in Professor Wilkerson’s class. Her enthusiastic personality continues to inspire me to pursue a career in this field. After explaining my career goals and the details of this assignment, she gladly accepted when I asked if she would be willing to conduct an interview to help me complete this interview report. Professor Wilkerson received her Master’s degree in Taxation from Georgia State University. She is also a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and has considerable experience in the field of accounting. A few of the topics we discussed were: the importance of teamwork, the way technology is changing accounting, the value of understanding finance and economics in relation to accounting, and the usefulness of receiving a degree in accounting and earning a CPA license.

With every job, comes a task or responsibility to accomplish. Every employee has a particular duty to fulfill on a day-to-day basis – it’s what he/she constantly thinks about during the workday. What criteria did management utilize to choose the employees that work for them? In order to effectively answer these questions, that is where people like Dr. Kathy Hanisch come into play.
This post will discuss two ethical accounting dilemmas that could occur in the CPA profession. For each dilemma, it will explain how the dilemma could be resolved based on logic and reason. It will then support that proposed resolution through support from the American Institute of Certified Professional Accountants (AICPA) Code of Professional Conduct.

The first question I asked her was, “What are some things that you do on a day-to-day basis?” When answering I was able to learn that everyday is a different task for her.
