A New Way of Leadership Cultural Identity- Steve Jobs Steve Jobs, the co-founder and former CEO of Apple was constantly making sure that Apple incorporated was running at its full potential. Apple today is continuing to grow, even without Jobs, but are lacking in what made the company truly shine brighter than all of its competitors. Jobs found out, through many years of experience, that the way for a company to be successful was to loosen the reins a little bit, and by doing that you gained more power. Another thing that Cook did differently as his time as CEO was that he actually made the effort to talk to investors, unlike Jobs who didn’t deem it necessary. Cook created a program that matches employee gifts to charity by granting a dividend to its shareholders. Tim Cook has been taking Apple in a whole new direction. Cook has made many changes to the company, many of them were extremely important to the successfulness of Apple. Cook also took charge in a controversy over in China about how the workers' were being treated. Cook went over to the factory and made changes in how they were being treated and didn’t keep the trip quiet either, he wanted the people to know what he was doing and why. After his trip to China, Cook had Apple join the Fair Labor Association, which is a third-party industry financed group that visits all of Apple’s factories and report any findings that that are hindering the workers treatment. When Job’s stepped down from the CEO role of Apple he told Cook that he wanted him to do what was best for the company and not constantly think “what would Steve do” which gave Cook the confidence in taking over the company and making some extremely important decisions on what Apple needed to do differently under his rule. We use this term in everyday life to describe what someone does to impress people in a crowd and we kind of use it correctly. A definition of leadership is “Position or function of a leader, a person that guides or directs a group”(Leadership). My definition of leadership is a person that takes charge and does there best at what they are doing to help people.

When we analyze the success of large corporations like Ford, General Electric and International Business Machines, it is evident that they had series of leaders who were visionary and believed in empowerment of people. When we analyze tough phases of a company or companies that had a fall and ultimate demise, we clearly see a linkage between failure of company and absence of effective leadership (Canwell, Dongrie, Neveras, & Stockton, 2014). The successful organization had leaders who made right decisions at right time and implemented them strategically. The implementation part needs excellent human resources and the ability to lead to them to get the task done. While different situations may need different style of leadership, the sophisticated manpower fueled by technological advancements and globalization have made some leadership styles less effective and some leadership styles to be highly effective (Feser, Mayol, & Srinivasan, 2014). This paper will discuss a tough situation faced in one of my former organization. The organization needed a different leadership style to tide over the falling sales and attrition. Three different leadership styles, their pros and cons, and the likely success in solving the problem will be discussed in this paper.

Point being is that he was not in complete control in 2006 but he became closer to the change manager director when he started to gain trust of consumers, investor and the organization when market share doubled, when he created Apple has made changes to placate shareholders. Cook instituted a dividend and share buyback five months after Jobs’ death to counteract any negative financials performances.
