Abortion Abortion is a sensitive subject. Opposing sides of this issue seem to have a difficult time even listening to alternate views due to the high emotions that arise when discussing this delicate subject. Those who stand on the pro choice side of the isle are ignoring scientific facts and modern technology that prove that abortion is indeed ending the life of a very small human. Abortion should now be illegal, modern medicine proves when and how life begins so there are much better alternatives that do not leave emotional and physical scars. Pregnancy is a result or consequence of a choice that has already been made. In a 2008 article, Russell Nelson M.D said “To understand this concept more clearly, we can learn from the astronaut. …show more content…
Everyone knows that when you have sex you are taking a chance of getting pregnant. If you are not wanting to start a family and begin that new chapter in your life the easiest way to prevent an unwanted pregnancy is through abstinence. In the cases of rape and incest a woman does not have the choice to have sex. In recent statistics it showed that one percent of women who are raped have abortions and less than half percent become pregnant from incest. It is very rare instances that a woman becomes pregnant without consenting to have sex. These situations are very traumatic for a woman so they should be free to make the medical decision that is best for their emotional and physical …show more content…
Compare that to the aftermath of those who choose abortion and it seems to be quite apparent that choosing to end an innocent life over choosing a good life for a baby leaves lasting bad feelings about the choice. A woman who faces the consequence of the choice she made to engage in sexual activity by carrying the baby to term and delivering the baby seem to mature and learn and grow. Hence, far fewer of these women repeat the “mistake” of an unwanted pregnancy. Compare this with the staggering amount of women who repeatedly obtain abortions and it is clear that they do not learn from their mistakes; they simply try to take a shortcut to get out of the consequence over and over
There are so many different views in opinions when it comes to the topic of abortion. There is the religious point that it is wrong to have an abortion because of the ten commandment that states “Thou shall not kill.” All have heard this one whether atheist or religious. People’s right to choose abortion or not has been questioned for many years, as congress officials have tried on many occasions to illegalize this right. Then there is the other side of this opinion where so many feel it is the woman’s right to choose to have an abortion. A lot of people see this as a
People make mistakes, it is a part of life. A mistake could be accidentally becoming impregnated, not by choice. Forcing a woman to carry on a pregnancy that she does not want, is cruel and should be considered inhumane. Children should enter the world being loved and wanted. That will not happen if a woman feels resentful towards her baby. An unwanted baby is prone to neglect and child abuse. Babies coming into the world unwanted has a list of consequences. It is possible that the child will start showing behavioral problems, poor social competence, low adaptive functioning, and more. Statistics show that deaths while giving birth is 14 times higher than deaths from an abortion. If abortion was illegal everywhere, the amount of illegal abortions would be skyrocketing. That causes more harm to the mother and the baby. Roe, or Norma McCorvey, is a perfect example of why abortion should be legal. That is why Roe v. Wade is such a landmark case in the United States. Motherhood should be taken extremely serious because we all know that how you raise your children is how they will grow up and will affect the decisions they
Less than point five percent of the reasons given by women for abortions are rape. Fetal and physical health complications add up seven percent, another seven percent do not feel they are mature enough to have a child. While health impediments are troubling, women that, by definition, feel unduly immature should stay obstinate in order to avoid such circumstances. Four percent believes that an infant would interfere with their career or education, twenty-three out of each hundred gave the grounds of not being able to afford the expenses of raising a child and twenty-five percent stated they were not ready for a child, another nineteen percent are done having children, eight percent do not want to be a single mother, the last six have no reason. Overall ninety-five per hundreds of abortions can be prevented by being obstinate or having a tubal ligation. Under what premise is it logical to become pregnant followed by an abortion, when from the start you knew you did not want any
I am pro-life. All the procedures doctors use to perform abortions seem harmful and uncomfortable to both the mother and baby. One method used is Dilation and Evacuation. Basically the mother is given drugs to force a speedy dilation of her uterus, then the doctor takes forceps and inserts them into the woman's womb and begins dismembering the baby by breaking the baby's bones, skull, and spine and then removes the now dead baby (Lloyd 1). That just sounds inhumane for someone to be okay with.
Abortion can offer a solution to unplanned pregnancy and may allow women to postpone pregnancy until they are adequately prepared to raise children, elevating the standard of living for newly born babies. “Fertilization is by no means perfect method, but therapeutic contraception and abortion complement natural processes that are designed to help us survive and thrive” (Tarico, 1). Contraceptives, such as the birth control pill, sometimes fail. To counter this, many new contraceptive procedures such as implants offer better protection and allow pregnancies to be an expected and planned occurrence. People often make mistakes when they are young, such as having unprotected sex. Abortion can provide an opportunity rebuild their lives and give them a second chance. Society’s attitudes towards conception and bearing of children change and evolve, and it is important to be compassionate, and understanding to the mother and the unborn fetus. Being pro-choice allows us to “stack the odds in the child’s favor” and give children the best chance of living a happy, healthy life (Tarico,
Why should any female be forced to carry a baby she does not want to keep? Abortions have been legalized since 1973 in the “Roe v. Wade” decision. And upholding that was the “Right To Choose” which referred to the pro-choice stance. With the evolving moral standards of society, abortions are becoming more and more justified. Abortions, the practice of removing a fertilized egg from a mother has become a controversial issue in the country, should be allowed because she might not be in the place for a child, could have an unsafe abortion, and may be a rape victim.
When the topic of abortion is discussed people tend to assume one of two standpoints: “pro-life,” they believe that the woman should not have the right to abort a human life because it would be murder or “pro-choice,” they believe that the woman carrying the fetus should be given the ability to decide whether to carry the baby to term or to abort it. Although Americans are divided on the subject of abortion by these beliefs, most do not fall strictly on one side or the other and ultimately the majority favor restricted availability. Abortion is a cruel and disgusting crime, but some still think that it is okay (Arguments For and Against Abortion).
Well, I believe a lot of it has to do with the mother's view on it as well as society's. If the mother feels ultimately bad about the whole thing than most likely she will abort it. Then again, I feel like no matter how horrible the situation or circumstance that the baby was conceived, if that baby is meant to be born then it will be born regardless of how the mother feels about it or how many attempts she will try to make to abort it. Perhaps she won't be able to take care of it but she can give the baby up for adoption and another responsible family can take care of it. Maybe that baby will grow up and turn out doing great things for humanity, and if it would have been aborted then it would've been a
I loved you from the moment I knew I was having you” these are words every mother tells you. The only people that can say that are the ones that aborted the fetus. What is an abortion? An abortion is a medical producer to terminate a pregnancy. Many focus on the women ending the life of a child but not many know the mental health of the women who had the abortion. Nobody really knows the really reason half of these women get abortions but they do go through a lot of mental health problems. Women who have had at least one abortion before or after having a child have suffered from anxiety and depression.
The question that always rises in this controversy is simply why women want to proceed to have an abortion. The answer to this question is almost always due to the problems with how it was conceived or how the baby is going to turn out when it is born. Abortion is a very common end result when a woman becomes pregnant from sexual assault. The evidence of this instance in a form of a child can be unbearable and terribly nostalgic for the mother. According to the article, “Abortion Can Never be Morally Justified”, “abortion carries its own variety of trauma, however; women—even those who were victims of sexual assault—have reported years of physical, emotional and psychological difficulty following their abortions.” Although sexual assault is a traumatic experience many people go through, in most cases, this practice did not solve problems but created new ones. To add, the circumstances of conception was criminal but, the life of any average person is just as valuable as newly-created human. Although rape is one of the most common cause of abortion, unexpected pregnancies are another leading cause of this procedure. According to Shriver
Abortion is one of the most complex debates in a lot of societies. In the same way as euthanasia or the death penalty, it is located at the border of life and death. Everyone has an opinion and a passionate advocate either for or against this subject. Based on a repot, around 53% people are pro abortion and 47% people are cons. Around half of American women who have an unintended pregnancy resort to abortion.
Society, in general, is sometimes a rather strange aspect to grasp. There are many different people and many different ways that they handle some situations. Some may be good ways and some may be morbidly awful. Sometimes, just by consulting with a person about the resolution to choose is not always the way that we should do things. It is easy to see that the crisis’ in this world cause a major uproar in people of our society.
More importantly a woman should have the right to terminate her pregnancy due to the fact of the possibility that that child was conceived through rape or incest. A woman should never have to give birth or raise a child that was forced upon her. Abortions had by victims of rape only account for .5% of the United States’ abortions. Although the percentage of abortions that happen because of rape victims is very slim it still should be an option to all women who may ever need this. Carrying the child of a man who forced sexual intercourse upon a woman could be very emotionally detrimental to her mental health. Depending on how the woman feels about it she should have right to make that choice for her own sake. Furthermore, a woman who is carrying a child with a major disability should have every right to determine whether she wants to carry this child full term or to terminate the pregnancy. Raising a kid that would barely ever be able to function in life is a very challenging, 24 hour 7 days a week, task. Who knows what the outcome would be anyway. Some children with
Common reasons are “it just wasn’t the right time”, “I’m too young for a child”, “I still have my life ahead of myself”, and “I never wanted to get pregnant”. First off, if she’s too young to care for a child, she’s probably too young to be having sex. So that isn’t a valid reason. Second, if you don’t want a baby, there are many types of contraceptives you could be using. For instance, there are condoms and the morning after pill. There is the rare occasion where a woman gets pregnant because of rape. I understand that rape is wrong, in every case, and that it is in no way the woman’s fault it happened or anything that follows the incident. Which includes pregnancy. But rape is not an excuse for abortion. How does one evil act make a second one okay? Two wrongs do not make a right. If a woman has a two year old baby that is a product of rape, and decides to kill the toddler. It’s murder. Rape isn’t an excuse for murder. So why can it be an excuse for abortion? If the rape victim can’t live with the fact her rapist is the baby’s father, then there are other options. She could put the baby up for adoption. Give the baby a loving home. Death isn’t and shouldn’t be the
Abortion is a debate that continues day in, day out, year in, year out. We have laws that have been set into place, yet the debate continues. The opposing sides in the debate each strongly believe they are right. The pro-choice supporters see a woman's right to choose as central to the debate. The pro-choice advocates see the life of the baby as the most important concern. Very little middle ground exists on the issue of abortion.
