Advantages And Disadvantages Of Public Education Vs Home Schooling

Education has been given to us and defined to us by Oxford dictionaries as the process of giving or receiving systematic instruction, especially at a school or at a university (Oxford dictionaries).While we have many different types of schooling, namely public, private and home schooling they will always be debates on which is better than the other. Yet in most cases the private and public schooling education will be paired up against the home education. In this essay I will make an attempt to try and prove whether or not home schooling is really an alternative to private or public education. Home schooling has its advantages and its disadvantages. For instance it has been proven that home schooled children are more socially and academically advanced as compared to private or public school children according to a study by the Fraser institute.(Basham,P.& Hepburn,C,October,2001). "In the past decade, home schooling has proven itself to parents and researchers to be a highly effective alternative to public and private schooling,"(Hepburn, 2001). It is good in the sense of that it allows you to be able to decide what your children are going to learn as compared to private or public schools where your child will learn everything put in the program even though he does not like it or it will not benefit him in the future. Furthermore in this type of schooling you are able to enjoy vacations at any time of the year unlike the scheduled school holidays. Positively you would also be able to shield your child from the negative influences outside your home. In addition it also is good as you are able to create your own schedule that will suit your needs. While on the same token it would be bad for your child as it might get lonely for them as they will not have as many friends as compared to a school where they can make new friends each and every day (Lamb, …show more content…

For instance private schools provide constant supervision and have zero tolerance policy. (Kennedy). Furthermore in private schools it is usually easier to study and pass as the number of students within a class room are not as much as they are at most about 15(Kennedy, 2014) Following this in most cases bullying is usually less in private schools because of the fact that they have the zero tolerance rules as compared to public schools. Again it is usually easier to be recognised and also be able to succeed in sport in a private school as their facilities are good and they have access to many different types of sport and have the equipment (Kennedy). Unlike in a home schooling situation it is easier to make friends within a private schools as they are many students and you learn different cultural backgrounds as compared to just being on your own at home (Kennedy) However like all good things a private school also has its disadvantages these could include things such as: they could be really expensive for certain individuals therefore meaning that some may not be able to afford these high fees. Moreover in these set ups students may be shielded from certain social challenges such as being exposed to drugs, as some parents would want their children to be faced with those challenges so as to make sure that they will be able to think for themselves
