Cell phones should be allowed in school because they can further students ability to learn and/or stay focused. Audrey Watters wrote, “And that’s probably one of the most important observations: Many students already carry a powerful computing device in their pockets, while oftentimes much of the technology hardware at schools is woefully out-of-date.” This is a major reason why cell phones should be allowed in school because in some schools that do not have the most updated technology there students do on their phones. By allowing cell phones in school, students have access to these powerful devices that can be utilized for free while increasing classroom resources. Watters continued to write, “Schools may find they have equipped student …show more content…
Higgins wrote, “The issue of security and red alerts on terrorism threats became an issue, and school systems began to relax the prohibition on cellphones in schools.” Schools are relaxing the harsh ban, and understanding the benefits of cell phones in school. The issues of security and red alerts are a threat, and are becoming an issue in the school systems which make this a valid reason. While cell phones do not prevent the threats, they do allow for help faster. This is a valid reason because cell phones in school can save lives. They can prevent more people from being injured during a school shooting and they can be used as a way to get help when there are no other ways of doing so. In brief, cell phones in school should be allowed because they are beneficial resources in times of security and red …show more content…
Cell phones are distracting in school and disrupt learning. Students should always be giving their teacher their undivided attention. Cell phones in school create problems and they affect students’ grades. Although some may claim these reasons to be true, they are undeniably wrong. The proponents of cell phones should not be allowed in school argue, “We know for a fact that the use of cell phones on school property around the country has led to a number of problems around safety.” This is wrong because cell phone use on school grounds is only beneficial to individuals on and off school property. Cell phones do not necessarily prevent problems, but they do help in times of emergencies. They promote safety in situations such as school shootings or hostage situations. The proponents of cell phones should not be allowed in school also argue “Student’s whose minds wander during a lecture or discussion may find the temptation of texting instead of listening hard to resist.” While this is true, it is up to the student to pay attention. However, texting instead of listening is the same as doodling and not listening, or playing on a school issued laptop even after being told to put it away. It is up to the student to restrain from texting in class. The more schools put an emphasis on no phones in school the more

Although phones may be used to help students with work, North Eugene high school should ban phones because how much of a distraction they can be in a classroom. Schools that have banned phone at school, 82% of students have a phone on at school.(Document #3) If North Eugene at least has a policy with not having students bring the phones in class, that will help with test scores and participation in class. “Students with laptops had a lower test result than those without. The reason? They were not paying attention to their teachers. We should expect the same thing from cell phones.” (Document #6) When using technology at school it may help but there also needs to be an extent to where it needs to stop. Phone are not going to help with our
Cell phones cause students to do bad on their work, can enable cheating, and can be distracting. So logically, cell phones should not be allowed in school. Phones can make it harder to get accepted a good college. They can make it to where some students can cheat and not do their own work. Finally, phones can distract students and teacher alike, taking away from learning time. Even though others argue for cell phones, these facts are all true. We live in a world where people are being taken over by phones. Let’s stop it from taking over
These are just a few of the reasons cell phones should not be banned in schools. Indeed, there are downfalls to a cell phones, but they're also good and very useful during school. In the article “Hang It Up” written by Jesse Scaccia, discuss the negative effects of cellphones in the classroom. As a former public school teacher, Scaccia thinks that cellphones are too much of an interruption to be used while a teacher is teaching and shouldn’t be allowed in classrooms. Due to the level of distractions cellphones cause in the class some students will fail at the end of the school year. She also states the parents and students point of view, in which they feel cellphones are needed in case of an emergency. Scaccia feels, students weren’t being honest with their parents because they would use their phones when there was no emergency, only for social purposes during class time. I agree both ways on the matter because as a safety issue they are needed during the day but they aren’t always used in that nature while school is in session.
Overall, cellphones should be allowed in school for academic use because teenagers use them daily. It would work to the advantage of both the students and the teachers to incorporate cell phones with school work. Education will only continue to evolve as the years go on, and it is essential that technology is incorporated along with
Students should be allowed in school for these reasons. To help for a future job, incase of an emergency, and to communicate with coaches and teachers. So I’ve talked about all the reasons why kids should be allowed to have phones in school. Here are the three reasons that I explained. One reason is that having a phone in school could help prepare them for a future job. Two incase of an emergency they can text their parents to let them know that they’re ok, and if it’s about an essay they could also text their parents to bring it to them. Three having a phone would help them communicate with their teachers and coaches to let them know if they can’t make it to practice or a game and to ask their teachers for more time on an
Cell phones should not be allowed in school. Cell phones should not be allowed because they can help you cheat on a test. They have apps and website that can help people cheat. Today, we would like to discuss why cell phone use should be allowed while in school and how allowing cell phones during school hours can
The use of cellphones in school allows students to have more freedom when learning. For example, in the article “As Schools Lift Bans on Cell Phones, Educators Weigh Pros and Cons”, it explains that some of the features a cell phone has allows you to interact with other people, which is good because it helps with social skills and makes it easier to make friends. If students are interacting with other students, it is beneficial to them because they will be paying attention to working with their partner rather than being bored and listening to just the teacher talk. It is important that teachers are involved with their students because an elementary school teacher in Minnesota stated, “We need to stop pushing against the technology and start embracing it. The more we push back, the more we separate ourselves from the students.” If teachers are involved with their students and don’t discourage cell phones, the students will actually have fun in class and will grow closer to their teachers. Cell phones are beneficial to schools because it provides a way where students don’t have to be distracted when there teacher is teaching them.
Primarily, schools should not allow cell phone use during school hours for a number of reasons; cell phones cause distraction and affects the student’s participation in the classroom. In the article “Should Schools Allow Cell Phone Use During the School Day?”, Punoinoin states, “Many
Imagine a classroom full of children that are doing there work and are very focused. Then out of the blue a student phone goes off and distracts everyone in the classroom. No child would have got distracted if students could just keep their phones at home, where they belong! Some people might think that cell phones should be allowed at school, but in reality cell phones are distracting, cause cyberbullying, and can be used for cheating.
Should cellphones really be allowed in schools, or would they cause huge problems?Schools disagree on having cell phones in the class for reasons such as, texting in class, going on websites that are unauthorized at the school, and many more reasons, but what the schools systems dont understand is the educational things you can do on a cellular device. In fact schools don't want cell phones in any part of the building not just the classrooms. Although schools disagree on cellphone usage in the building, they should allow them because there are many uses for cell phones in school to help kids academically.
In a world full of uncertainties at least we can all agree cell phones do not belong in class, right… right? As technology evolves so too does the human, nowadays we are so surrounded by information that our attention has dwindled, and currently there is one big war for attention occurring, the war between the classroom and the cell phone. Right now we are starting to believe that banning phones all together is the answer and while many people agree that strong-arming teens from being able to use their cell phones will solve the problem schools are having it just simply isn’t the case, banning cell phones from the classroom won’t fix anything.
