My purpose for applying to Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated is to honor God by serving the Black community with my time, gifts and treasures in partnership with educated Men of character. I humbly accept my call to serve and desire to do so through Omega. I have gratefully been the recipient of several Omega Men’s love which has positively influenced my life. Likewise, I desire to give myself for others. I realize that all promotions come from God and therefore I have no perceived notions about how the fraternity can assist me with achieving my career goals because I trust that the principle of ‘reaping and sowing’ will naturally come to pass as I share in service alongside of Omega. The purpose of this letter is to inform you of my interest in becoming a member of the Nu Zeta chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. My desire to have the opportunity to become a brother of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity incorporated is grounded on encounters, characteristics and the prestige purpose and history of the fraternity.

Day in and day out we hear about high school and college students wanting to pursue a sorority and/or a fraternity based on the stereotypes these organizations uphold, well I chose to differ. I told myself if I ever decided to become a member of a sorority it would be based solely on their ethical standards, history, and values they are founded upon. Members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated have made everlasting effects on my life. Having mentors in this fraternity allowed me to see how every member feels responsible for improving the communities that they are from. They never hesitate to take the leadership roles that are needed to see change. I would like to become a member of Alpha Phi Alpha because it would allow us to share a brotherhood with great men, it will allow me to make valuable connections with other positive men around the world, and it will help me become the best version of myself. My desire to become a member of this fraternity began my freshmen year after I attended the first informational meeting. At this meeting I was able to speak with members and also learn from them. I know exactly what you are going through. At the beginning of my freshman year, I swore to myself that I would never join a sorority. I thought it was weird, cult-like, and that I didn’t need to pay money to have friends. However, here I am, loving and actively participating in Delta Gamma, a sorority that was reestablished at the University of Arkansas this year. When I first joined, I had certain expectations. I expected for me and some of the members to be somewhat of acquaintances, but thought that most sorority girls were too self- absorbed for me to gain any real, genuine friendships. The Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity provided a voice and a dream for African Americans around the world. For people who were colored at the time this fraternity was created, had to struggle in their everyday life because racism was such a huge focus. Alpha Phi Alpha was founded at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York by seven outstanding African American men who attended college there. They created a strong bond and brotherhood in the organization and were an inspiration to colored people all over the nation. The seven founders were known as “Jewels” at the fraternity. These seven men were Henry Arthur Callis, Charles Henry Chapman, Eugene Kinckle Jones, George Biddle Kelley, Nathaniel Allison Murray, Robert Harold Ogle, and Vertner Woodson Tandy. They were all very intelligent and brave men, a lot of people looked up to them. The fraternity was created and based on colored people who were racially prejudiced socially and educationally. Students should demonstrate scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character because of three reasons. One, if students demonstrate these qualities they are more likely to get better grades and get reprimanded less. Another, without these traits, a student would have far less opportunities in the future. Finally, as students grow they will gain much more wisdom if they allow themselves to work on demonstrating these characteristics. Overall, these qualities are very important in the present, and in the future.

In fifth and sixth grade, I was invited to attend The National Young Leadership Forum, an organization dedicated to serving academically gifted and talented youth. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to spend a week in Washington D.C., where I learned the qualifications of a righteous leader and to develop academic abilities and interests. I will bring my knowledge of leadership to sustain a school community in which students will strive to maintain integrity and trust with each other. By engaging in community service, I have an opportunity to learn experientially, expose myself to diversity, and develop a sense of responsibility. By volunteering in multiple ways in the last several years, I was able to knit hats for children in hospitals, help at a local food bank, create and donate bookmarks for third graders, and help at the Bellaire Public Library. Helping others has given me a great sense of satisfaction and I plan to continue working on various community service projects in the future. When I first accepted my bid for Sigma Alpha Epsilon, I told myself I would not be a bystander. I knew that you can get much more out of the fraternity depending on how much you put into it. From day one, I made sure that I would do whatever is needed to make my experience as a brother worth it. I immediately began to learn the True Gentleman as well as the history of the Fraternity.
