Emotional and social intelligence has the greatest influence on the health care leader competency of communication and relationship management. “At its core, the communication and relationship management competency is about how clearly leaders understand the people they work with and how effectively they use that knowledge in building high-performance working relationships.” (Garman, 2006, p.291) This competency is focused on the workplace relationships. I did very well on the leadership skill assessment test. I scored 82, which means I am on my way to be a good leader. From the test, I learned I need to improve my confidence and work on providing support and stimulation. I also need to improve how I handle the performance of my employees. My self-confidence improved after doing the SWOT analysis assignment. Asking my friends, family and even co-workers how they viewed me was a huge eye opener. My co-workers' input was the biggest factor. I never realized they viewed me so highly. I feel it has helped me as well as a team because I am less afraid to make mistakes. I am more upfront with them which helps clarify what we need to be working on. I would say after reviewing my assessment test and reading the chapter my leadership style would be situational.
During this past week, I completed my leadership traits assessment and tallied the results from my friends and coworkers. This process was interesting because it has been several years since I have completed an activity like this one. My results were as follows, I received my highest ratings in being persistent, determined, trustworthy, dependable, friendly, diligent, and conscientious. On the other hand, my lowest scores are in self-confident, self-assured, and perceptive. These results were not surprising to me because they are developmental opportunities that I have been working to overcome. It was good to see that what my results are consistent with what I already knew.

To develop my ability to delegate, I will meet with the practice administrator of the clinic twice each week for one hour over a period of six weeks to train on how to delegate appropriately. I will also purchase and read the book How to Delegate from the Essential Managers Series. I will achieve my goal by October 15,

I withdrew my wallet and pulled out my employee ID to scan myself into the building. When access was denied, I observed a few other employees before trying again. I glanced at the angry red X on the screen and walked over to a circular desk in the middle of the lobby, where a receptionist just began her shift.
Leading change within an organization and building a shared vision are essential elements in becoming an effective leader. Change and the adaptation of, is a vital part of everyday life and job function that can be viewed as ambiguous not only to the ones the change is affecting, but also by those implementing the change itself. An effective leader is able to develop the most effective way to implement such a change, and communicate the necessity of the change to all involved in the implementation. I have personal experience in determining what changes should be made for the operational integrity of the air traffic system, and experience in the implemenation of the changes.
Over the course of this class I have learned about the kind of leader I am as well as the kind of leader I prefer when being the follower in a situation. Whether or not it is common I am not sure, however I react to a different leadership style than the one I implement myself. Above I have created my own leadership model that I feel covers all of the aspects it takes to being a successful leader. There are three elements to being a productive leader in any given situation and it starts with you as a person. In order to be a leader I feel that you must first understand who you are as a person, you need to know what drives you to succeed, and what motivates you. As the leader of an organization, business, or large group you have to be able to
Having effective leadership helps to establish a clear direction for the organization. Communicating by conveying a compelling vision in writing, speaking, and presenting helps to keep everything organized (Duggan 2015).
