AP psychology was a class that I walked in not knowing what to expect; I was scared thinking that it would be too challenging for me, yet I proved myself wrong. In my opinion, this is the first class to teach about “the real world”, our society and what is happening to our/others mind and/or body. Ap psychology should be taken by everyone who gets the chance to even if they believe it is too challenging for them, and even if it is. This class isn’t only about passing or getting a perfect grade is about learning how our mind thinks, and all the studies that come along to prove fact and theories. This is a class where you learn and not memorize which are two very different things. The most important subject I learned in Psychology was about
1. Psychology has contributed to the advancement of social issues in many ways. Psychologists challenged societies way of thinking on many social issues, one being segregation in schools. Psychology was used to show the affects of segregation and that psychologically homosexuals were no different than heterosexuals. Psychology has helped drop stereotypes and stigmas and helped create the way of thinking that most of society now has.
First, children¡¯s acquisition of language is an innate mechanism that enables a child to analyze language and extract the basic rules of grammar, granted by Chomsky. It basically states that humans are born with a language acquisition device that, the ability to learn a language rapidly as children. However, there is one important controversy in language acquisition concerns how we acquire language; since Chomsky fails to adequately explain individual differences. From the behaviorists¡¯ perspectives, the language is learned like other learned behaviors. It is learned through operant
3. Main diagnostic criteria: Eating excessively within a period of time. Lack of control over eating during an episode (a binge). Eating rapidly, to the extent where the individual is “uncomfortably full,” even when the individual is not hungry. It will usually end with the individual feeling ashamed, disgusted at themselves after the episode.
1. What are the feline distance increasing postures? Describe defensive aggression and offensive aggression in dogs.
Fig. __ Feed-forward projections from the eyes to the brain and topographic mapping. In each eye the visual field on the left and right of the fovea (the cut goes right through the fovea!) projects to different cortical hemispheres: the ipsilateral retina projects to the ipsilateral visual cortex, and the contralateral retina crosses the contralateral cortex (hemifield crossing in the optic chiasma). The first synapse of the retinal ganglion cells is in the lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN), but information from the left (L) and right (R) eye remains strictly separated. The LGN consists of six layers, layers 1 and 2 are primarily occupied by the magnocellular pathway, and 3–6 by the parvocellular. Information from both eyes comes first together
Poetry and spoken word help students. Some improvements are more advanced writing skills and a better social conscience. It helps with overcoming of shyness, develop literate individuality, self-confidence, and self-esteem. It can be very a therapeutic experience, and students show more confidence in learning. (Weinstein, Susan p.1, Jocson, Korina p.1) Students start to act on their self-perception as writers. Their self-confidence and self-efficacy skyrocket. (Weinstein, Susan p.2) A student named Edward describes this feeling of belonging. “When we’re going to meetings, we’re all in the van talking about our problems and stuff. I was like ‘Oh my gosh, I never knew
AP Psychology was my very First AP class. I am very thrilled that my first class was Mrs.Shelnutt. She is a terrific teacher. During the beginning I struggled with keeping up with the work and studying. The number one thing that you need to do for this class is read the book. Throughout the semester this was my one flaw that I couldn’t do consistently but the times I did I got a good grade on the test. Another important thing is the interactive notebook. Throughout the course you have to fill out a notebook with vocabulary from each of the chapters. This is an important study tool for when it comes time to study for the test and all the comps. When Mrs.shelnutt goes through the power point for the chapter you are learning it is smart to print
Asking question after question because my mind can never get enough of the brain candy we call “information” has come close to driving my parents near insane. I want to know why they think the way the do, why they differ in mindsets and yet work so well together, what drives them to make the decisions they do, and how they feel about the situations around them. I have loved psychology long before I even knew it was a subject to be studied.
I am not the kind of person that backs down from a challenge. When I was offered to take AP Psychology I already knew I'd be taking two other AP classes. I knew from personal experience that AP classes came with stress and a lot of rigorous work. However, it didn't take long for me to come up with a response: “I'd love to take AP Psych.”
Last school year I decided to take a course on Advanced Anatomy to receive science credits. Little did I know it would the best class ever. Anatomy has helped me confirm my interest in focusing on the medical field in college, specifically nursing. We learned about the majority of the body systems, with the skeletal system and the brain being my favorite. The outline of the body and the many tasks of the brain were my favorite things to learn and study. When it was time to dissect, I was hesitant, but I soon learned that I very much enjoyed looking at the body and where things were located. When the time came to choose classes for senior year, I realized that AP Psychology was available. Taking this course allowed me to further my interest
I understand that you have asked students to help you improve teaching at ECC by sharing with you examples of good learning experiences. I would like to share mine with you.
My interest in psychology first developed while taking the AP Biology course in my junior year. The chapter that caught my attention the most was the section on animal behavior. While studying the multiple methods of animal mating, from flaunting colorful feathers to showing aggressiveness, I noticed similarities between animal and human behavior. With this sparked interest, I decided to take AP Psychology in pursuit of further expand on this knowledge and my curiosities on the human perspective. However, I attend a high school with over 3000 students. With AP Psychology being a popular course, there was always competition for the teacher’s attention. Spending one-on-one time and building a relationship with my Psychology teacher was difficult,
This part of the paper can be very simple, but it gives the reader an idea about what they are going to be reading about and makes them decide whether it is worth reading or not. A good abstract has many qualities that include accurate information, it is easy to read, straight to the point and contains about 150-200 words. You will need to start a new page for the abstract and it will be the first thing the readers see after the title page. There will be a header for this page meaning a page number on the far right, top hand corner and then the title of the paper on the far left, top hand corner of the page.
Paper 6: Kniffin, K. M., Sigirci, O., & Wansink, B. (2016). Eating heavily: men eat more in the company of women. Evolutionary Psychological Science, 2, 38-46.
John D. Rick (2018) takes the behavioral perspective to psychology. Behavioral psychology is about the external environmental stimuli that influence behavior and can be trained to act a certain way. Behaviorists like B.F. Skinner believe that you learn through a system of reinforcements and punishment. In this article, the author focuses on child’s behavior and how an unwanted behavior can be changed through negative punishment without fear of the child being dishonest and fraud.
