The common thread that researchers never diminish regardless of their differing views on the definition of the concept is the level of importance that it possesses (Toma & Marinescu, 2013, p. 262). It is not uncommon for an individual to also identify with more than one leadership style. Because no two people are the same and their characteristics differ regardless if their approaches are similar, there were some challenges to overcome for Apple whenever the long-time CEO stepped down from his position shortly before his death in 2011. Steve Jobs led the company for a long period of time and his approach to leading Apple is different from that of Tim Cook. It is not to say that Tim Cook will never achieve the status within the industry that Steve Jobs did even if their methods are different. Steve Jobs. As an entrepreneur, the keys to Jobs’ success were broadcasted as the ability to “focus, simplify, take responsibility end to end, when behind, leapfrog, put products before profits, don’t be a slave to focus groups, impute, push for perfection, tolerate only “A” players and know the big picture and the details” (Isaacson, 2012/2013, p. 56). His methods have truly put him in the same league as many of America’s greatest innovators. Jobs’ ability to build Apple into a world-class organization and to bring the company back from near bankruptcy in 1997 are only two examples of his aim to be the best in the industry by continual

The theories applied to Steve Jobs have opened my mind to realise how important effective leadership styles are to organisations. A lesson learnt from Steve’s leadership qualities is that a leader can adapt different style of leadership and this makes a leader more effective and efficient. The late Apple boss was a master of employing various strategies to adapt to differing scenarios and situations. Steve Jobs did not exhibit a single rhetorical style, but rather altered it depending on the situation and yet still managed to deliver a constant message to support his company’s
Leadership is “ critical in codifying and maintaining an organizations’ purpose, values, and vision. “ ( PM World Today Journal ). Having good leadership methods in place at an organization is vital in bringing success to a company. Steve Jobs is highly stimulated and has a strong idea of what he wants for Apple to achieve in upcoming periods. He is a transformational leader, and this, “ represents the most popular current view of leadership. This leader is characterised by a capacity to create a highly motivating and absorbing vision of the future, and has the capability to energise others to pursue the vision. “ ( Claremont McKenna College Journal ). Jobs has put in a huge effort to create a strong framework of control and direction, for example, “ Since returning to Apple, Steve has put as much energy into creating a strong management structure as he has into the products. “ ( www.ft.com ). This is highly effective leadership, trying to improve the design of the organisation in order to achieve more efficiency.
