Social media is a game changing invention but it has come with a hefty amount of backlash. When I was younger I didn’t have a phone and social media was nothing compared to how it is now present day. It’s astonishing just how far the internet and social media have come. Not just when it comes to how advanced or how widespread they’ve become, what shocks me is just how influential social media has become. It’s almost borderline unsettling how much humans as a whole rely and depend on social media for nearly everything they know or want to discover. Social media has become not only a way to locate others and communicate with others but a way for people to learn and stay informed and aware of what goes on outside the doors of their cozy little nook. Looking back to my childhood days, I recall lounging on the couch with my mother in the morning watching news on the television but now that has become a distant memory if I need news today, I get it from social media on my cell phone. The poor television in the living room has become obsolete from lack of use because of a boost in social media's involvement with news and correct political issues.

Society’s dependence on a vast array of information and communication technology has not only changed the way we communicate but has also reinvented social activism. Social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook and forum websites like Reddit has given digital activism more potential than ever before to create real change. Whether the activism pertains to political, social or economic changes–digital technology allows individuals working collectively to achieve a common purpose with more ease in their pursuit of change.

More often than not children are unaware of what is really going on, they just do what is told or pressured to them in order to fit in or be considered “cool”. There are many advantages and disadvantages to social media when it comes down to peer pressure. With that being said, it all depends on how the social media site is being used on a day-to-day basis.

Social media is a very big deal in today's society, teenagers use it to socialize, find information and for entertainment. The first thing we could find on social media is really nice comments on teens photos. The second thing we could find is teens speaking out and being heard. Social media is helpful to teens because it boosts their confidence and lets teens have a voice. Despite this, some people say social media leads to cyberbullying, but only a small percent of teens said it made them feel less.

Nowadays, a lot of people are using social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumbler and so on. Since the Internet has propagated rapidly, social media have progressed a lot. The generalization of the internet makes us to live conveniently and fast. People are almost using smart phones, i-phones or comfortable devices which can access to internet. These equipments make us to do social network easily. It helps contact friends, family, and other people even though they live far away. It could be, however, abused, if you don’t use properly. Especially, it is important that we understand and regulate the use of social media by young children.

There is a transformation happening today that is completely changing the way that we do things. The ways that we are communicating are shifting from face to face interactions to short, interactive messages. Technology seems to be making it easier to stay connected, but it is restricting our interactions with others and leading to isolation.

Our society has become heavily reliant on social media, and today’s younger generation cannot avoid using it in their everyday lives. As time has progressed, social media has advanced significantly, becoming easier to access with a touch of a button. These advancements provide both positive and negative consequences to youths’ relationships. Due to the rapid advancement of social media, youths’ real-life relationships with their peers have been affected both positively and negatively.

Social media has been dominating people’s lives for years now. It is a way for people to stay connected with their family, friends, and even see what their favorite celebrities are doing. Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram are just a few of the social media sites that people love to use. These sites are used mostly by young adults. I believe social media can be a positive thing, but it can also have some negative effects. Young adults have become dependent on social media likes, retweets, followers and friends to determine validation and self-worth; these elements of social media are important to teenagers. Young adults need to take a step back from social media and focus more on reality, because they can become dependent on it, take it too seriously, and it can affect their mental health.

In our present society, people are continuously making this world more accessible. Time and distance is not an obstacle in communicating with each other. We are using technology to maintain and strengthen our familial relationships. we also use technology to understand other cultures and meet people all around the world. Mobile technology made it easier for more people to maintain social life online. But, in spite of making us more social or socially active, these technologies are causing the opposite. In many cases, this is a malicious curse. Use of technology is one of the most compelling reasons for the social awkwardness of this millennia.

Social media can be a powerful tool that allows citizens to feel connected to public officials.

Sending friend requests to a bunch of unknown people just to increase your friend list. Scanning the phone every two seconds looking for comments and likes on your posts. Keeping a regular check on your follower base and searching for ways to keep it growing. Browsing through all of your friends’ as well as their friends’ Facebook accounts only to find yourself feeling more and more miserable. While not all, most social media users have had this experience at some point in time where their source of entertainment turns into a constant source of anxiety. While social media platforms such as Facebook can be great for global connectivity, the frequent users of such sites are more likely to be depressed. It is because high use of social media causes individuals to be isolated from the real world, making them exceedingly dependent on these sites to feel accepted.

Social media is a modern way human beings connect with each other. By posting photos of one’s everyday moments that share experiences and one’s daily thrills for all to see. Social media allows one to communicate as well with comments and likes. The comments and likes keeps one’s personal internet community connected within each other. The community ranges from family members, close friends, past friends from high school, and even strangers in some cases. So, is social media a blessing or curse? “Irrespective of the terminology used, it is evident that excessive internet use results in decreased work productivity, neglect of daily life activities, affects family time, relationships get strained, communication within family reduces, meal quality get affected, reduction in hobbies and developing mental health issues” (Nawaz & Anand, 2003; Young, 1998; Beard, 2005; Kraut et al., 1998). Can something that designed to bring one together with others somehow pull each other apart. The time spent is excessive and can lead to personal dangers. The dangers can be addressed if the time spent is limited. Human beings should limit their use of social media because the dangers brought towards one’s life such as social interactions, health, one’s identity, self-worth, and academics. Social media has become a significant part of our everyday lives. Social networking such as Facebook, Instagram, etc., enables us to connect with people from everywhere. But social media sites are becoming well known among everyone even kids. Nowadays, is difficult for them and us to recognize the difference between the essential relationships we promote in the real world and the relationships that formed by social media sites. The benefits of social media that its creates a communication between different culture, worlds, languages, and different beliefs as well. It doesn't make us interactive with others like not meeting face to face, and this makes us communicate by using the text, email, and chat online more than doing it in the real world. But what is the main advantage of it, since it is making people communicate in different ways and causing others to benefit from it such as businesses? How many times a day do you check social media? Five to six times if you aren’t busy? Once or twice? A national survey conducted by the Pew Internet and American Life Project reported that the number of adolescents online increased to 93% and 75% lived in households with internet access (Shwartz, Sarah). The average person spends about 7-9 hours viewing social media daily, most often letting it effect their self-esteem. Self-esteem is defined as “confidence in ones worth and abilities; self-respect” (Merriam-Webster). People spend most of their time on the internet now due to email, instant message, blogging, and other social media outlets. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat are all major social media outlets that people spend most of their day on, watching videos and viewing pictures of what people are doing. These outlets are a way of staying connected with the outside world and what is going on within it, but is it such a good thing to be able to see what everyone else is doing all the time? Most social networking sites are about making friends, and getting approval from others. It’s easier to make friends online because you get to view their profile. Most sites allow you to view a person’s age, what they’re interested in, what hobbies they have, favorite foods, all things someone can make a judgment about. Most people want positive feedback, they want to know if people like how they look, or what they’re doing. Social media doesn’t only affect the way you feel

Receiving information quicker causes people to become more easily opinionated and maybe even work towards a goal with activism. Listening or spreading news and information is one of the main reasons people answer as a reason for using social media. Some people desire the trait to stand in front of the masses of people and share about their opinions on controversial subjects such as abortion and police brutality. Social media helps promote the influence of sharing opinions or facts, because it is difficult for someone to let go of what they find as intriguing; so they share it with the people they find will most likely listen. A striking part of online networking destinations, for example, Twitter is that an unconstrained burst of protest can be started by one individual in a solitary post and broadly sharing encounters and having one's voice heard on social channels can make a feeling of strengthening - of feeling less alone with an individual battle, and more trust in demonstrating a piece of the self that may more often than not stay covered up. From Zeynep Tufekci’s article she says, “because [social media is] very good at what it does...It makes it much easier to build up movements quickly…” (Tufekci 1) The standard level of social concerns rises, due to more frequent political or social change movements. The difficulty of discovering fresh news and information around the world is becoming more convenient for people of all classes and age.
