The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) of 2001 was put into place to provide extra money for children who do not have money while trading their knowledge using their test scores. The NCLB Act says that students are to be given yearly tests along with yearly report cards to track how well they are doing in school, in doing so, school is not about fun and socializing but now it is all business. These tests not only do not help the students learn but puts a load of stress on their shoulders, alongside that the tests have no purpose other than grading how well a students is able to retain information. Before the Act, being social and running around with classmates was the main activity on the playground. Since 2001, everyone is dimmer in mood and dreads that end of the year test. Why do we have these tests if the students do not gain anything? Tests or no tests? While standardized tests give teachers and administrative bodies a good idea of how well the teachers are teaching students, the tests are not needed, all they are are bucketloads of stress piled on top of each student. Not only does standardized testing not have an effect on the students but it also has no effect on teachers. Some teachers detailed a negative report when they talked about the testing. “[The] Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) testing did not provide benefits that offset the time and costs associated with testing. Teachers reported finding minimal value in the purpose or results from the tests.
