There are many benefits for veterans and their families – as well there should be. The problem is, a lot of people don’t know what’s available or where to go to apply for them.
Listed below are some of the many benefits that are available.
Assisted Living – Professional nurses come out to the home and check on any problems that the veteran or the family may need. This can include changing bandages on injuries, taking temperature and blood pressure. Previously, this type of care would have the patient in a convalescent hospital or nursing home.
Home Care – Professional home care givers come out to the home and provide and assistance that the veteran or the family may need. This can include bathing assistance, food preparation, help with cleaning
Nursing homes and assisted facility homes are all examples of long term care facilities. These facilities are usually targeting individuals who are of geriatric age or need around the clock care (mental health and physical health). The residents in these communities have access to individually-tailored levels of individual or group-centered activities, programs, and assistance whether it is with home or personal care. Long term care facilities are generally for those who are unable to manage independently in the community. Specific types of long-term services include nursing homes, hospice care, home health agencies, and residential care facilities. The goal of these programs is to make sure each patient has a safe and comforting environment
Veterans face many challenges when transitioning from the service. Those that have served shift from a fairly structured and ridged way of life to the less structured and more chaotic civilian life. Many veterans, especially those that have been in combat or have had to personally deal with catastrophic situations, have a very hard time adjusting and often require significant levels of assistance. Sadly many veterans fail to get help, either because they do not wish to appear weak or they are simply turned away.
In addition, Community Care Services provides much needed monitoring and support service to ensure the older person is able to live in their own home. They cover everything from community nursing, meals, domestic help, personal care, home modifications, transport and day therapies and support for people with cultural and identifiable needs, as well as for people with particular health conditions. For example, meals on wheels services provide a nutritional food, Vital Call service to help the aged people in an emergency case. Some of the ways may support the older people are get assistance with “home help”,
Taking care of the individuals that are getting older takes many different needs. Most of these needs cannot be given from the help of a family. This causes the need of having to put your love one into a home and causing for the worry of how they will be treated. It is important for the family and also the soon to be client to feel at home in their new environment. This has been an issue with the care being provided for each individual, which has lead to the need of making sure individuals have their own health care plan.
From the beginning of this year, and into the summer I worked as a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) at an assisted living facility in Colorado. It was a great experience and it made me realize that helping people is something that I want to do no matter what. Working as a CNA has taught me so many things, but something that stands out to me is that I learned to have patience so that I could understand what someone is communicating, or trying to communicate.
One of the most serious problems facing all veterans today is the lack of proper healthcare. Soldiers, sailors and airmen are leaving active duty without having proper healthcare to cover their physical or mental injuries. The department responsible for veteran’s healthcare is the Department of Veterans Affairs. (VA) According to The department of Veterans Affairs website, “The United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is a government-run military veteran benefit system with Cabinet-level status. It is responsible for administering programs of veterans’ benefits for veterans, their families, and survivors. The benefits provided include disability compensation, pension, education, home loans, life insurance, vocational
Some problems I discovered while doing my research are that many Veterans don't receive proper medical care and it is often hard for them to find. They are not automatically enrolled in Va benefits when they return home and have to apply for them. Those that have access to benefits often find themselves on waiting lists to receive benefits.
The Department of Veterans Affairs is a government run program to assist the U.S. Veterans who are disabled soldiers. It began when the Pilgrims passed a law that required disabled soldiers to receive benefits from the colony, as early as 1636 (U.S. Dept. of VA, 2014). By 1776, the Continental Congress provided pensions to disabled soldiers during the Revolutionary War. Later, the Veterans assistance program expanded to include benefits and pensions not only for Veterans but also for their widows and dependents. Finally, the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) was established in 1865, to form the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, an institution
Do you know someone who receives Veterans Benefits? Do you know how long for them to get their benefits or if they received them at all? Contemplate that and reach out to your family member or friend that is a veteran and see what kind of answers you get.
Usually Medicare does not pay for long-term care; it will only pay for medically necessary skilled nursing facilities or home health care. With Medicare certain criteria has to be met for certain conditions for Medicare to pick up the cost. Medicare also does not pay for any kind of long-term care that helps assist with activities of daily living. This kind of care includes dressing, bathing, and using the bathroom. Medicare Advantage plans can offer limited skilled nursing facility and home care coverage if the patient’s long-term care is medically necessary. Medicaid offers coverage for both medical and non-medical associated long-term care, but the person will only qualify if they have less than $2000 in assets and income that is inadequate to pay for the cost of their care. If a veteran is at least 70% service connected disabled the Veterans Administration will pay the costs of long-term care for life. Long-term care that is not provided by the government is usually paid out-of –pocket by family members. Most people choose the option of home health care because long-term care is too costly.
Judith Coburn, on her journalist said “The veterans administration (VA), the preceding agency of the Department of Veterans Affairs, will not be able to meet the needs of U.S. veterans,” veterans suffer getting their benefit. Since the Continental Congress of 1776, start proving pensions to all the disabled soldier because they could not be able to work. Upon the time they established news system to benefit to veterans. They three agency that benefit veterans at are Veterans Bureau, the Bureau of pensions of the interior Department, and the National Home for disabled Volunteer soldiers. The United States have a lot of programs to help the veterans but, throughout the country they are a lot of veterans that are are homeless
As a veteran, you have the opportunity to seek benefits for a variety of needs through the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Benefits program.
In addition, to adjusting from soldier to civilian they have to take care of their family by themselves. Homeless veterans is a ghastly issue because most veterans return to no home or life and because veterans struggle to get back on their feet by themselves.
Assisted Living Homes are designed to provide residents with basic everyday assistance. An important aspect is that assisted care facilities provide a safe and comfortable environment for older adults who need assistance with duties such as bathing, dressing, shopping, cooking, grooming, arranging doctor’s appointments, medication administration and laundry services. These facilities have social and recreational activity programs designed to keep the residents active. The recreation groups provide residents with activities for enjoyment, exercise, and interactions with others to build character. Special activities such as luncheon,
Hello Lauren, nice solid post! Well done on explaining when assisted living and village living might be a good option for care. Assisted living is an alternative care for the elderly. This allows them to have independency and privacy of home life, but also the care and supervision of a nursing home (Berger, pg. 568). My great-grandfather is in assisted living and he loves his apartment and the independence assisted living gives him. He is able to go out and walk around without having to check in with nurses 24/7. However, they do keep an eye on him and check up on him periodically and inform his children (my grandmother and great-uncle) on how he is doing. Another form of alternative care option is something called, village care. This form
